Re: backlight and dvd r/rw/ram dont work compaq presario...
You can try to fix this yourself but i suggest you take it to a trusted repair facility. there could be more than one issue with the backlight problem. as far as the DVDr drive those are easy to replace. Try ebay for your parts, but the screen will run you about 100 bucks and the dvd 50-80 depending on which one you want or need. be mindful that if you dont select the exact model you will need to pull the tab off the front of your dvd burner to fit the new one to get a cosmetic fix. as far as your issue with some backlight on opening, there could be issues with the inverter or cabling from motherboard to lcd. if you are not familiar with doing this, i would not suggest it, for one the opening of the unit is touchy and i have seen how easy it is to break the top panel screw mounts off requiring you to buy new top covers for the lcds, but if you are daring and wanna try...go at it. lol...but i warned you....

Does the laptop boot? Sound? Do you see a "ghost Image" in the monitor in a bright light? If so, Could be backlighting, Inverter, on/off switch that shuts the monitor on/off when you open and close the lid. Can you boot to safe mode with networking? If so, Open the Device Manager, Uninstall the Graphics Adapter, reboot, the software will apply a generic driver, If the Graphics adapter has not failed completely.
First try to unplug the laptop, then you open it up with a screwdriver, after doing that, remove the hard disk and the RAM and reinstall it back in, then reassemble the laptop back together to see if it will work.
If it does not work, then try to check if the module is still intact, then you insert an operating systems disc into the DVD tray to see if it will run a new window, if it does, then it means the operating system wiped out and need to be reinstalled.
Inserting the disc will solve the problem as the system will begin to run the operating system.
When the backlight is black ie. the CCFL lamp is not illuminated that means the CCFL lamp is dead (it is basically a very small fluro tube) or the inverter is faulty and it is unable to supply high voltage to the CCFL lamp.
make sure the inverter is firmly seated and connected.
Check the wires to the CCFL lamp, there is a couple of wires from the inverter to each end of the CCFL tube.
Check the CCFL lamp voltage on the inverter it should be 100 - 150 volts.
The problem is with the battery. All Lithium batteries last for around 1000 charges or so. Since the laptop is 2-years old the battery needs to be replaced.
I Hope this solves your problem. Kindly Accept my solution.
