Error code 4 flashing orange - code 5c00

Ive had the printer flash 4 orange lights and get code 5c00 on laptop screen. so far ive cleaned the print head, the waste ink pads and tried the reset sequence without any joy. Can anyone explain to me what else i can try or have i missed something here? - im in the philippines at the moment and cant get it repaired under warranty here - i bought it in UK and the printer is barely 6 months old.

Thanks for any advise you can give

Cheers Xanda - but after a lot of head scratching i have finally got it working - its not a purge unit broken - it was the purge unit blocked from running with some paper jam debris which i just removed! lol - i am now one happy bunny!!! maybe we should post this as a possible problem solver - unhook the casing and check the right side gears near the ink waste pad - gently turn them to see if the mechanism's blocked - remove any loose paper and bingo - problem solved my ip90 is now printing like a trooper!!! what yah think - worth posting mate?

I also had this issue. The problem was that the 'excess toner cleaner' on the right side was stuck down and the gears could not turn to pop it up... I took the machine apart, and dislodged the part. Now it works fine!

Hi Chris,
Error code 5c00 (flash in orange /green 4 times) indicates that purge unit has broken so that the printhead is locked down when initializing process performed. Sorry I have to say that no first aid for this problem unless you bring it to nearest service centre for part replacement. Hope this information helpful for you.
Regards,

You are so lucky Chris!. Since this symptom indicates what I have told you. The broken paper prevent purge unit mechanical system from running. 5c00 description is Purging Operation Error while I seem to ignore some little possibilities like you experience. However, good luck and have brighter day.

I can not print. it shows an error messege on the lcd screen 5c00 and green and orange light flashes alternately.

The error code 5C00 is for purge cam sensor error meaning an error occurred in the purge unit. You can remove the purge assembly and clean out all the ink covering the moving parts. You can clean it with isopropyl alcohol or just water. If no luck, replace the purge unit, will be around $30. This is the part number, if you need to replace it: Purge unit (QM2-2925)

Error code on my ix4000 reads 5C00

Canon has a decent trouble shooting guide for this model:

    http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/contro...

Click on the Step-by-Step Troubleshooting link under Tech Support

Unfortunately it does not give any possible solutions for blinking lights.

The user guide on the other hand does.
You can download this under Downloads -> Product / Software Manuals

Here is a summary of what the flashing lights could mean:

Two flashes: Out of paper or paper feed error

Reload the paper correctly and press the RESUME/CANCEL button.

    Three flashes: Paper jam

If paper has jammed in the printer, clear the jam, reload the paper in the printer correctly and press the RESUME/CANCEL button.

    See Paper Jams

Six flashes: No print head installed

    Install a print head.

Seven flashes: Print head is defective

    Contact the Customer Care Center.

Eight flashes: Waste ink tank almost full

Ink used for cleaning is absorbed in the waste ink absorber placed in the printer. Eight flashes indicate that the waste ink absorber is nearly full. Press the RESUME/CANCEL button to cancel the error so that you can continue printing.

    Important
If this error occurs, replacement of the waste ink absorber and maintenance of the printer are required. Canon recommends to contact the Customer Care Center as soon as possible. Once the waste ink absorber becomes completely full, printing will no longer be possible.

Nine flashes: Ink tank is not installed properly

Open the print head cover and press the button of the ink tank and reinstall the ink tank properly.

Ten flashes: Battery level is low

Charge the battery. For details on how to charge the battery, refer to the manual supplied with the battery.

Eleven flashes: A specified period of time has lapsed without receiving a response from the digital camera or digital video camcorder / The digital camera or digital video camcorder connected is not compatible with this printer

Disconnect the camera cable, press the printer's RESUME/CANCEL button and reconnect the cable.
If the error is still unresolved, there is a possibility that you are using a digital camera or digital video camcorder that is not supported by this printer. Use digital cameras or digital video camcorders that are compatible with this printer.

POWER lamp flashes alternate green and orange:

An error that requires contacting the Customer Care Center may have occurred.

Disconnect the printer cable from the printer, and then turn the printer off and unplug the printer from the power supply. Plug the printer back in and turn the printer back on after leaving it about 10 minutes.

If the problem remains, contact the Customer Care Center.

Hi, didn't find anything in regards to the error code you mentioned. The flashing error light i did find something on though. The kind of error depends on how often the orange error light flashes (any # from 2 -10). You can read up on it in the user manual. Tom
