Question about Tomtom GPS

3 Answers

We bought TOMTOM 710 less than 2 years ago. We are not frequent travellers and therefore use infrequently. We wanted to use it yesterday and although the charging light shows up but TOMTOM wont respond. There isn't even light on the screen. Please advise

Hi,
There are 2 possibilities, either battery is gone and required new or need reset button to be pushed at rear of Go 710

Hi Welcome to fixya.. Hope, this will solve your problem.
Try the following:

  • Make sure your device is fully charged before connecting it to the computer.

  • Reset your device.
Click here to learn how to reset your device.

  • First connect your device to the computer and then turn on the device using the On/Off button.

  • Try using a different USB port.
Connection to your computer may not be successful if you use a USB hub or a USB port that is on the keyboard, on the front of a desktop computer or a USB port that is not supported by your computer vendor.

I have found a trick for those bad battery ,but you lose your waranty you need to open your tomtom , behind the screen you wil find the battery(for the Go 710 it is an 3.7 V ,2400mAh,samsung ICR18650-24)
you find 3 wires : red, black, yellow cut them of at the half of the wire size
, then cut off your car loader wire (tomtom)(5v), you will see again 3 wires inside :red, black, white
connect the red with red, black with black, white with yellow
(the best thing is to make a little hole in the cover to pass the wire, so it will be beter for closing the all thing)

remember you will have no battery any more and no waranty of tomtom!
It only whorks then with your car loader tomtom

Thanks for rating the solution as FixYa

Why are there white lines on my screen?

Hello,
If you bought it less than two years ago and still have the receipt, you should be able to exchange the device for a new one. Alternatively, you can go to your local tablet service and ask them to fix it.

TRIED TO UPDATE MY TOMTOM GO 710 BUT NOT ENOUGH MEMORY BOUGHT NEW CARD BUT TOM TOM WONT TAKE IT TRANSFERED DATA BACK ON TO OLD CARD BUT TOMTOM WONT TAKE THIS...SHOW TWO CROSSED HAND ON MEMORY CARD...

Just had the same problem..............

I discovered that you must only use an SD card and not an SDHD card.

I bought a bigger SD card (2Gig), installed it and copied the data I wanted without any probs. With the SDHD card I couldn't transfer anything and didn't get any help as to why...(there's a lot to be said for trial & error).

Hope this helps

I HAVE A 32" VIZIO LCD I PURCHASED 2 YEARS AGO.

You should buy a sodering kit and remove the buldging capacitors yourself. Find a local electronics store, I used Radioshack, and see if they can match the capacitors. I had this happen with my Samsung lcd about a year ago and just help another friend with the same issue yesterday. The sodering is not as hard as you'd think. The capacitors should be under $5 v. paying a few hundred for the power board.

TomTom map of Poland is hopeless. should get a free update on a new device. There are a lot of new roads in Poland and the device which I bought 2 months ago does not take it into account at all. Can't...

You will only get a free update on a new device if you install tomtom home on your computer and login withing the first 2-3 months of purchasing your device. Also, if you purchased a device that is "refurbished" or "recertified" then you do not get this free update and your map can be up to about a year and a half old. In this case, you would have to purchase a map update. To update you will have to install TomTom Home on your computer (download from TomTom.com) and login. You can typically purchase one update for about 45 USD or purchase a year of updates for just a little more (like 59.99 USD). A "year of updates" gives you an updated map each quarter for one year. I don't know that I would have bought a TomTom for use outside of North America or the UK. Sorry.

I HAVE A TOM TTOM GO 710...DOES IT NEED A SIM CARD

yes, the tomtom 710 needs the sd card which has the maps on it. if you just bought it and didnt get one with it, i suggest you take it back, because the cost of the card often out weights the value of the gps.

if you want to buy a sd card for it, you can get one HERE on the tomtom site or you might want to try ebay.com which sometimes they have them...i just checked ebay for you and currently there are none listed.
