Camera will not go on

I have a canon sd300 it is about a year old. I took a picture with it, turned off the camera and tried turning it on about 30 mins later and it would not go on. I thought perhaps the battery was dead so I recharged it but the camera is still not going on. Please help !!

Re: camera will not go on

If you push the power button and do not see any signs of life at all, it is most likely a blown fuse. In this model disassembly is required to replace the fuse, and it is soldered onto the main power board. If there are signs of life, but the camera does not function there are other explanations. Jammed lenses are the most common cause of power-on failure. Check with your manufacturer for recalls and warranty service information. Failing that you can find a repair provider online. Focuses but never takes picture

Try a mode other than auto, and turn off the flash. Then try taking a picture. Did it work? If so, then your flash is either burned out, or the flash safety circuit thinks that the camera is open. If the flash is burned out, then professional repair is required, as a flash change-out is not trivial (Call 1-800-OK-CANON).

However, as mentioned it may be only a break in the safety circuit. Canon usually some of the screws in the camera case to serve as a means of detecting if the case is open (and thus disables the flash to prevent shock). Examine all the screws around the perimeter of your case. Are they all there and tight? If not, try moving and replacing any missing screws with one of the others that are still there.

Piece of junk that took great pictures for 1 year and now shows a black screen. Do not buy any Canon products. We also have one of these pieces of junk at work, now displays a E 18 code. Appears Canon wants to make mucho dollars by producing ****.

Canon sd300 cant see pictures taken

This may sound silly, but did you check the shutter on the end of the lens when the camera is on to make sure that the shutter is open? Sometimes some dirt or sand can get into the lens barrel and make the shutter get stuck in the closed position. If this happens, gently open the shutter with a a toothpick or something (NOT your finger because of the oils and NOT something that will scratch the lens).

If the shutter is open and the pictures turn out black both on the camera's LCD and on the computer once you download them, then I'm guessing something happened to your CCD, which is the tiny electronic chip that records the light coming through the lens. Either something inside the camera has fallen in front of the CCD and is blocking the light (unlikely) or the CCD chip has died. If that's the case, I hate to say it but buying a new camera would be more cost effective (and probably cheaper) than getting it fixed.

Canon Poershot sd300 digital elph. It just wont turn on period.

Try this: with the battery installed and battery door open, take a pencil, fine tip screwdriver, or anything long and skinny and push the tip of it into the little nub circled in the picture here. There's a spring inside that little nub... keep the spring depressed and try to turn on the camera. If it works, then either a small piece of plastic broke off the battery door or the nub got broken/pushed in too far for the battery door to trigger it. Try using a dab of hot glue to keep the nub pushed into the down position.

Defective mechanism, You need professional service to fix it, or better give it back asap,  digital camera lasts only for three years working at its best form, I suggest you buy a brand new one and sell it after two years of use. [:0)
