exact same problem; recurs every few weeks once.

fixing it by disconnecting it from the wall, removing all usb connections, removing all installed memory, and putting it all together again works... but is is such a sucky way to handle the problem.

soo annoying... ><... the computer shuts off, and starts buzzing. Meanwhile, the numbers 3 and 4 light up in green. AHH~!

I'm not an expert at this!!
I looked up Dell Tech Faults on another pc.
Disconnect power and press on button to discharge pc. Remove side panel. Remove all USB port cables including hubs. Remove memory from the CRIMMS. Reconnect memory. Reconnect usb's. Replace panel and power cord. You can always connect to Delle Tech Support - doesn't cost.

For some reason only known to anoraks or rocket scientists--- this works and pc is restored to former glory.

Hope this works for you too.

Sounds like a power supply problem to me.
If you need to disconnect all load and then reconnect it again, it looks like a power issue.

On start up i have lights 1 and 3 lit up only and a periodic buzzing noise from inside the tower (every couple of seconds). after about 15 seconds the buzzing stops, the lights stay on and nothing else...

The problem is due loose memory sticks or mismatched memory sticks.
You need to open the computer tower and reseat the memory modules on the machine to fix the issue.

How to do it ? follow the link below

Thanks for using fixya
