Sounds like the LCD is failing/failed. Hook up a desktop monitor and see if you have the same problem.
Replacing LCDs is not trivial. Here is a site that sells them.
Google LCD replacement and you'll find many sites.
I suspect that the flat wire between you keyboard and screen is coming loose. It is within one of the himges and is about 1" wide and very delicate. You can not fix it and should take it to someone who works on laptops. Sorry that is the best I can suggest
Sounds like your screen has developed a problem. You wouldn't necessarily see any damage when you opened the bezel up. I would suggest you take it to a repair shop and have them test it and replace the screen if necessary
You are not alone with this problem. Some lines (like mine) run vertically rather than horizontally. The solution - sue HP. These screens have a known fault ie the Nvidia graphics chip is known to be the culprit. The company knows all about this issue but expect us to pay to put it right - sue them, you can do it online for around £35 (UK).
