Maytag Refrigerator MSD2756DE Coils are icing up

Your solutions suggest to follow certain actions but I need to know how to do the actions. So for my situation of an iced up coil, how do I check to see if the Defrost timer is advancing. How do I check to see if the defrost heater is working. Then how do I see if the Thermostat limiter is working. Where do I go to get procedures for these suggestions.

I noticed a decent amount of water on my kitchen floor coming from the freezer. (Frig also is about 5 years old and cost a decent penny). Opened freezer up and on the bottom of it resembled an ice glazier.

Please disconnect power from your refrigerator before attempting the following! You will likely need an adaptive defrost board for your refrigerator. The defrost thermostat and heater is only available as an assembly and can be checked while the unit is freezing by checking the resistance with a multimeter. there should be some resistance to the heater assembly but not infinite. If the resistance is high then the heater assembly will have to be replaced. Your model has an adaptive defrost board located in the upper right hand back portion of the control panel in the refrigerator side. This cover is removed by placing your fingers in the 2 indentations at the back of the cover one on the left and one on the right and pulling down and forward. Once the cover is off there are a couple of screws directly above the lights which have to be removed and a couple of hex head screws behind the number faceplate and on the back wall near the water filter. Once these are removed the whole housing will come down the board is at the far back right. It will either be a bare circuit board or a small white box. Just unplug it and replace it with a new one. This will correct 99% of the defrost problems on this line of refrigerators.

Clark, Im not sure who you are refering to in your post, but I will try to give you some insight on this model. These Maytag adaptive defrost boards can be a pain to get at sometimes. For the model posted, the adaptive defrost board will be in the back right hand corner of the control. You have to drop the light shield. First remove the control knob ends. On the shield there will be two tabs on each side in the rear. Push the tab in while pulling straing out on the shield. Then there will be screws holding the light itslef and the control housing assy to the top. The adaptive defrost sits in this housing. When you get to the board, depending on which one you have it will read Dstat-door-L1 or dstat-test-L1. If it reads the first one you should be able to initiate a defrost by cycling the cold control on and off 3 times in six seconds, leaving it in the on position. If it's the second one you will need to short L1 to test with a small screw driver. Do this with the harness on. If it jumps into defrost and immediatley jumps back out, it's your board. The calrod heater and defrost terminator come together as one kit. I usually don't see too many of them go bad. It's usually a board problem. You can go to under appliance, post your model number and bring up a diagram of the control area. Hope I have been of some back.

If your refrigerator freezer compartment is cold, but the refrigerator compartment is warm--It could be a defrost problem. When a defrost problem occurs, it is usually the fault of one or more of three basic parts: defrost timer/adaptive defrost control, freezer thermostat or the defrost heater element. See in detail how to dx and fix: Refrigerator Defrost Parts .

My fridge runs every 30 minutes does not matter level i have the themastate on is this normal

This may be normal. However, check and clean the coils on the outside the refrigerator (on the back, or underneath). Vacuum or brush all dust and debris off. Some refrigerators have the coils in the walls, and cannot be cleaned. Be certain there is air space around the refrigerator so that air moves freely over the coils. Next, check to be certain the door seals all the way around. If it is a frost free type, make certain the coils inside do not have ice accumulating on them and that the fan is working (both inside and outside fans). These, when working properly automatically defrost. If it is not frost free, be certain to defrost it making certain there is not excess ice accumulation on the interior coils... ice is an insulator, believe it or not. Be certain the thermostat is not defective, nor the defrost timer. If it is defrosting too frequently, it will have to run more to keep up. Is the refrigerator near a heat source? I hope this leads you to a solution to your problem.

MSD2656GEQ The coils on the freezer side ices up, then does not cool the refridgerator side

Hi, It's a common problem with no-frost refrigerators, you have a defrost problems, two scenarios. (1) hot air entering freezer/refrigerator, examples. hot summer days, regular openings, high room temperatures, hot foods and broken door gasket, leaving freezer/refrigerator doors slightly open overnight, could cause your evaporator (coils) to freeze/ice up. cases like this, unplug/disconnect your refrigerator, remove produce, clean and let it defrost, for an hour, make sure all ice melted. plug or reconnect your refrigerator let it work/ run empty for another hour, then put back your produce. sure it will work perfect for the next 3-4 days. (2) next type of defrost problem could be faulty defrost heater, defrost thermostat, you will have to open back panel on freezer side to check. check your defrost heaters, defrost thermostat and defrost timer, it's better to change defrost timer and defrost thermostat together, or change faulty ones independently. but before you change any parts, clean and defrost refrigerator first, could just be regular openings, hot days, etc. if after 3-4 days it started to ice up, then check following parts. defrost heater. defrost thermostat and defrost timer, let me know if icing occurs after 3-4 days then we can check those parts i suggested. remember to always disconnect/unplug your refrigerator, before attempting any repairs. good luck

Maytag side by side freezer drain icing

This is a pretty common problem. Sometimes the defrost cycle is not long enough because the freezer setting were too low. But most times this begins slowly until the drain finally closes and then the water has no where to go but the inside of freezer or refrigerator. I have more help topics to prevent a constantly happening over and over again. But you may have a blockage down-line from the freezer. So until you can melt the ice and pour a warm solution of water and clorox in the drain and it end up in the pan below the refrigerator I will hold off on that until I hear back from you, Thanks, Sea Breeze
