Distorted Graphics What happens here is quite funny. The distortion that happens now never happened before. When the computer is idle (When i'm doing nuthin on the computer by which i mean the computer is on and there is just the desktop screen seen) there is very little distorsion but when i do sumthing like just simply move my mouse or press sumthing on the keyboard or open any application then the display gets really distorted. For a sec i thought the RAM was malfuntioning so i got a new RAM and even then the problem continues. What am i supposed to do

Graphics board needs replacing. Hard to source but it is a modular replaceable unit. Access is directly under the keyboard.

Sound very distorted, new motherboard and speakers fitted.

If the sound is distorted on all sources over both speakers then the speaker amp on motherboard is suspect. To eliminate bad laptop speaker possibility, try hooking up another audio source to the audio output of the laptop and hear what happens. If they also sound bad then the mo bo is definitely the culprit.

How do i fix the distorted, halogram-like video pictures on my computer?

First of all, how old is your display? Second, how did that happen in the first place? Finally, was your display recalled because of inherent video artifacts like the one you're describing? You should check with your OEM before making any queries on sites like this.

My subwoofer sound is distorted

whatever player are you using must be having Equalizer in it...try adjusting that [keep that down to a minimum]. Check the program for your audio device...some programs have sound options like jazz, rock, pop these are predefined equalizer changing these could also help. Try using a different media player like VLC [it's free to download on the web] Try uninstalling the audio driver and then reinstalling the driver. It is quite possible that your speaker doesn't match with the Laptop's amplifier or the speaker is gone kaput [a coil problem or something needs repair...but do not repair rather buy a good speaker coz repairing loses the quality].

My display gets distorted

There is a simple test to narrow the possibilities. Connect your Thinkpad to a known working monitor using the video out connections at the back base of the computer. Then power on your R40 and see if the distorted screen develops on the known working monitor. If it does then you very likely have the BGA video problem, or Ball Grid Assembly problem and the problem is caused by a video/graphics chip on the motherboard. If you known working screen paired with your R40's base works fine, then you know it is a problem related to the screen itself and will call for either a new inverter or new backlight or new screen depending on further tests. But my bet is that it is the BGA problem which you can learn more about by searching for those terms on the net. There are services that repair ("reball") these BGAs but you have to remove the motherboard from the computer, or pay the service to do so. You can download the HMM, Harware Maintenance Manual, from IBM/Lenovo's site to get an idea of what is involved in opening up your R40 to extract the motherboard. This should help you narrow things down.

Toshiba Satellite Laptop with distorted picture

Hi there again.
Yes it does sound like display drivers although it could be the bios graphics controller or the graphics chip so keep an eye on the startup screen for the same thing. In the meantime right click on computer, select manage from the sub menu, then select device manager, it will generate a list of devices, click on the + icon next to display adapters, right click on one from the drop down list and select uninstall, restart the pc and let the operating system re-install the drivers automatically, this should hopefully resolve your problem.
Please keep an eye on the bios/post screen because that could be an indication of more serious issues.
I hope this sorts out the problem for you.

Kind regards and thanks for using FixYa!!

Laptop LCD moniter badly distorted please help!!

Hello. The problem as you've told us, is most probably with the connector that links the LCD pannel to the main body of the laptop (on the motherboard). Because the joints are constantly moving there is some friction happening with this connector and in some cases it may get damaged or become loose from one end. You will need to have it examined in a service center. This isn't an expensive repair, in the worst case scenario you will need to have that connector replaced at most. Good luck in solving this problem and post any other question if you need further details. PS Sorry for my bad english, I live in a non english speaking country.
