Question about Computers & Internet

PC is not reading Cavalry external HDD anymore.

I think I may have a problem. I bought an external harddrive off New Egg the other day and I was able to use it. My friend and I put about 8 gb of stuff on it. It is a 250 gig HDD. I tried deleting the partition, repartitioning it, and formatting it. When I try to format it, it wont format. I look in the Drive Manager and there is not a file system, what else can I do?

Right click 'my computer'

click 'manage'

in the new window that appears look down the left side and you will see an entry called 'storage' the 3rd entry under this should be 'disk management' click on this

you should now see all the drives installed on the computer, choose the one you need and right click on it, then choose 'format' from the drop down list. follow any instructions.

If it does not format, then it could be a faulty drive, in which case return it to where you bought it.

I looking for a pcb boad for hd western digital

That would be on another WD2500JB Caviar harddrive

Either that, or start looking on the internet posting -
WD2500JB PCB Board, and see what search hits come up.

Here,.....let me try.............

http://www.hdd-parts.com/18100096.html

Before you replace it, let me ask........
1) Was it in a Desktop PC?

2) Was it in an external harddrive?

External harddrive?
Then suggest you obtain a 3.5 IDE (PATA) external enclosure,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3883498&CatId=2780

In an external harddrive there is a small interface circuit board.

The Harddrive plugs into the small interface circuit board, and the USB cable is attached to the small interface circuit board.

It is this small interface circuit board that usually goes bad.

The external enclosure is just like the case of the external harddrive.
Has a USB cable going to a small interface circuit board, and the harddrive plugs into it.

My Sonic DigitalMedia LE v7 doesn't read recorded CD any more.

Chances are the hardware is damaged and will need to be replaced. This happens over time to eye sensors, and you can replace the eye in it but it's just cheaper to buy a new 10 dollar CD/DVD Burner/Reader from new egg.

I hope this helps.

E-machine 2003. crashed while uploading pix-help!

Excelent description thanx. I assume you have bought a new PC. If so simply remove old HDD and plug it into the DVD cable on the new PC and boot up. It should read the old HDD, simply "copy" pics to new HDD.

DO NOT "MOVE" pics or will corrupt drive futher.

Reformat oldd HDD and repload Windows, all good again.

I have lost the cd which came with my freecom classic hd 80gb and I had to wipe my computer. Now my computer will not read the files on my freecom harddrive

You don't need any software to use this device. If your hdd is external, you just plug it in to any computer via the USB port. If it is an internal hdd same thing again. You can read your files after restoring your computer. But of course it must be your secondary hdd.

External HDD are similar to the normal internal HDD, only difference is that The physical harddrive is only place into the casing with usb terminal port so you can remove the physical HDD. Your casing's usb terminal may be damaged. Borrow a casing for a external usb HDD from a friend that is working and use it to extract your data to a PC. Hope it helps.

Hard drives can make a little noise when you shake it gently, but to hear clicking sounds when it's running is not a good sign. I dropped a brand new 120 gig hdd for a customers lap top right outside the store. It made noise when I shook it "carefully" but nothing installed. NOTHING..... Tested it. It was dead. Since you say it's an external see if all inside is connected tightly.
