Have you recently added any new hardware or software? If Windows is your operating system, can you boot into safe mode? (To enter safe mode: at the beginning of the bootup process, tap the F8 key until you see a boot menu, choose safe mode).

Reset my desktop backc to the original settings

Remove any DVDs or CDs from the optical drives and then unplug all peripheral devices except for the keyboard and mouse.

Click the "Windows" button and then type "eMachines recovery management" into the search box. Click on "eMachines recovery management" in the results list and then click the "Restore" tab.
Click "Password Settings" and then type a new password into the text box.
Click "OK" and then click "Restore System to Factory Default".

Type the recovery password into the "Password" text box and then click "OK". Click "Next" To start the recovery process.

Click "Finish" and then wait for your computer to restart.
This procedure could take several minutes. Once your computer has restarted, you'll be prompted to create a new user account, enter the date and time and set up the internet settings.

or if you are running XP

If you set your machine back to eMachines factory settings, it might help you for a short while but if you don't have effective virus protection your problems will return in short order.

You should get rid of this virus with an effective virus remover.

You can run Bitdefender's free online scan which doesn't need to be downloaded http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html

If you know when you got the virus, you can do a system restore to a time before the virus was on your system. This article tells you how to run it from safe mode http://bertk.mvps.org/html/safemode.html

Your best protection in general is a complete internet security suite such as Bitdefender or Norton internet security 2009.

More information here http://www.ask-the-computer-doc.com/comp...

If you need to totally rebuild your system and you don't have a recovery disk, contact eMachines to get one.

You might also try a Windows repair install if you have the operating system disk. Follow the directions here for XP http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepa...

try starting your laptop by pressing F8 during the bootup process then select Safe mode option, then restore you os to some back date orDo one thing, install THE OS without formatting the drive, this also happens when the os got corrupted or some bad commands or program (virus) execute on the startup

My computer is frozen on the log-in screen. I am unable to type in my password and my mouse is frozen on the screen. .

Hi kechab,

I'm sorry that you're having trouble with your computer. In cases like this, manually restarting the computer is the first thing to try:
  1. Press and hold the power button for several seconds, until you hear and feel the system power off.
  2. Press the power button once more to start the computer back up.
If the computer freezes again, and your computer is running Windows Vista or Windows 7, you might be able to fix the problem using the Startup Repair utility:
  1. Press and hold down the power button for several seconds, until you hear and feel the system power off.
  2. Press the power button once, then press F8 repeatedly until you see the Advanced Boot Options menu.
  3. Use the up and down arrows to select "Repair Your Computer" and press "Enter."
  4. If Startup Repair doesn't start automatically, select it from the list of options and restart the computer when prompted.
I hope this helps!

My computer has adminstation lock/code i dnt know

Hello,

If you forget your Windows password or if your password expires, you must reset your password before you can log on to your computer. This article contains two methods that you can try to reset your password so that you can log on to your computer again. These steps only work if you have previously created a password reset disk for the computer, or if you can log on as an administrator to assign a new password to your account.

If you do not have a reset disk or cannot log on as an administrator, unfortunately, you may have to reinstall Windows XP and all other programs that were installed on the computer before you can use the computer again. This is for security. Without these safeguards, anyone could reset a password to anyone else's computer and gain access to private information.

Please mention which operating system you are using.
If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7 then their is no way to get in other than reinstalling the operating system.
In XP their are two ways to change the password.
1st method - Restart the system and when you see the computer manufacturer's name Dell or HP or any other start tapping the F8 button 5 to 8 times. A menu will come. Choose the safe mode option and then press enter on the next screen on selection of the os. Your computer will now show u a new account by the name of administrator. If you had an admin password then u won't be able to get in here either. But most people dont have this so log in to this account and go to the control panel and you will be able to remove the password for your own account. Restart system and you are good to go.
2nd method ( Required only if you have a password for this hidden administrator account )
Boot from the Windows XP cd. When the cd stops loading at a point press Enter on the first screen, then press F8 to accept the licensing agreement and then press R for repair. When the repair process starts and you see Windows being loaded press Shift and F10 together, the command prompt will open up. Type the following command.
net user user name *
(user name means whatever ur username is that appears on your login screen)
after this the computer will ask u to type a password so just type any password. Better to type a really short one becasue when you type the password on this screen you won't see the cursor moving or your password being typed in.
Press Enter after typing the password.
It will ask you to retype the password. Again the password would be visible when you type.
Press Enter and it will tell you command completed successfully. If it does not work then retype the commands again carefully. Just make sure u type a short password, probably a one letter password and u wont have any issues.

Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Thanks.
