Question about Apple PowerBook G4 Mac Notebook

1 Answer

I just bought a used powerbook g4 laptop. It worked great and I used it at work to connect wirelessly to the internet. I brought it home and cannot get it to connect to my wireless network. I have a belkin n wireless router that works with my ipod touch throughout the house. Whenever I try to connect with the laptop, it says there was an error joining the airport network.

You could try changing the security. Some of the older laptops have trouble with the new WPA2 security. Use WEP and you should be OK if this is the problem. Good luck TT

G4 network settings

This is often a problem with Airport cards becoming defective over time. You mention that you have tried with an ethernet connection as well. When trying, make sure you disable your wireless connection.
In addition, make sure that you are not using a static IP address or, if one is required, that you try assigning a different IP outside of your DHCP scope as you can be experiencing IP address conflicts.

Display won't turn back on

You may need to open it up again and remove first the airport card and turn it back on and if that boot your computer there's a possibility that your airport is causing the problem and the airport may be loose and touching some other parts on it.

Hope that helps...........

My powerbook g4 no longer recognize my builted in airport, have no airport now. The only way to make my g4 work in hook an either net cable to my g4 into my router. Makes my laptop very stationary, what...

What I would suggest is reseating the airport card as it may be the card has come loose or the cable is not connected properly. The following support page on the apple website will tell you how to do it.

Failing that you will probably have to buy an new airport card or a wireless usb adaptor. You should be able to pick one up from ebay fairly cheaply.

Hope this helps.

Cannot connect to the internet

how are you trying to connect it? if you have wired internet, just plug the LAN cable at the RJ-45 LAN port of your laptop and you will be connected. You must have set your LAN Adapter to get IP Address automatically. Also, if you have a wireless network adapter, if you set it up to get IP address automatically, you can connect to available wifi zone.
