I reinstalled the maps using the factory DVD. Now they are locked and the website http://www.navigation.com/sanyotraffic that the GPS unit directs me to does not work. That website is for purchasing the RDS traffic updates, for the 4070 and 4370 units. Nothing at all on the website about unlocking my 4050!! Does anyone know what the correct website is for unlocking the maps?
I ended up in the same situation and called (800) 421-5013 for help. The gentelman who assisted me said that how the DVD holds the same data as factory Sanyo 4050 GPS and upgrading has locked your device. To resolve the discussed issue one have to delete everything (plug-in your device via USB cable --> My Computer --> Removable disk) and install fresh copy onto your navigation device via that DVD. Tried it with NO @!@ JOY

To reload the software:
1. Connect your device to the computer
2. Make a backup of your addresses and favorites if you wish
3. In File Explorer, right click on the device (removable drive) >> Format
4. Start the Desktop
5. Go to My Mio >> Reinstall the software
6. Go to My Mio >> Recover Keys
7. You can now reinstall the maps from the Maps tab. If you downloaded a map update, make sure to use the downloaded file.
8. Go to My Mio / Voice Transfer and re-install the voice files
Sounds like you have a Garmin and i don't use garmin, but it seems to me that i remember and keep running across the fact that you have to have a map key to use the maps and it sounds like this unit (if it is a garmin) has lost it's key, in which case you have to contact garmin to get the key and directions on how to install the key.
Or and you may get lucky on this, if you have the original CD disk you can reinstall the original software and this should install the key code as well unlock the units maps
First, check to make sure the map file is there. The file name is gmapprom.img. It's located in the Garmin directory. It should be 1GB in size. To do this you need to connect the Nuvi to a PC with a USB cable.
Next, please tell me what year of map you have on your unit, 2009, 2010, etc.
Them, email me your units internal serial number. Its a 10 digit number (not the number on the outside). The number starts with a "3" and can be found by pressing the tools button, then system and then "about".
I do know a 'workaround' to Garmin's copy-protection for maps you legally are entitled to use, but before that, when a Garmin Nuvi 205 stops working or behaves strangely, there are

I had the same problem so I went to garmin.com/kenwood and downloaded the latest update to my pc unzipped the file and burned it to a cd put the cd in my dnx5120 and updated my system and my maps came back ... read the install instruction on their web site and this should solve the problem at least it did for me ....good luck hope this was helpful to all ...
Did you buy the unlock key from garmin? You need this key to be able to use the maps on a specific gps (serial number) so when you update maps, you type in this unlock key and the maps are unlocked on the gps. There is a page about this on the garmin website
