It may require software drivers. Go to the web site of the manufacturer and search for "drivers." Look for the model of the card reader you have. download the driver(s). There will most likely be directions with the download telling you where to install the drivers on your computer. Then restart, and try the card reader again.

How to put photos onto SD cards

In Windows, click on Start/Computer. A window opens showing all the drives connected to the computer. Under "removable drives" locate the SD card. Hover your mouse pointer over the SD card icon and it should tell you how much free space is on the card. If necessary, delete some photos or other data to make more space available so you can add the photos you want. If there's already plenty of space, try formatting the SD card in either ex-FAT or NTFS format. Then try copying the photos again. If the SD card does NOT in appear in removeable drives then the SD card may be faulty. Try a different SD card.

When I try to transfer my photos from the samsung digital camera ES70 to my computer a message come up saying "USB Device not recognised". Why?

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa.

Take the memory card out of the camera. Move the lock switch on the side of the card to the unlocked position if it is in the locked position. Replace the card carefully without moving that switch. The unlocked position on most SD cards puts the switch towards the end of the card that goes into the camera first.

If that doesn't help, try a different card. The card you are using may have a problem that could require formatting. Copy your photos to another drive first. (Use a drive/photo recovery program on your computer (with the card in an SD card reader). There are some that will attempt to read even a corrupted SD card.) Then reformat the card. If the card can't be reformatted, it may have failed. Check your warranty on the card and see if it will be replaced by the manufacturer.

I hope this helps.

Why wont my computer recognize my sandisk memory card anymore

Sometimes it happens that your slot doesn't work you can use a another option like Olympus LS-10 digital recorder as a card reader for accessing the data. Insert the SD card in your LS-10 digital recorder then connect the recorder to the computer with a USB cord then it will show you two options for the onboard storage inherent and one for the SD-Card. Select first photoshop elements to read the card and then Windows Live photo Gallery to view and copy your photos.
If the Information helped you out then please give me some ratings. Thanks

You may try to install memory card into an external reader for a pc and try to format that way. Place card in camera and connect camera to computer via usb cable and try to format that way. I had a canon that the only way to read the card was when it was in the camera, if I tried to put memory card in an external reader it would not recognize the format. Canon does some wierd things with their stuff. Good luck and if this was helpful please vote. Thanks.

Upgrade your card reader.

SDHC cards are a very different animal under the skin to a standard SD card and so they're not back compatible with plain SD card readers (although SD cards can be used in SDHC devices).

I'm not able to download pictures from My Sandisk SDHC 4 mb card with my camera anymore, because the camera has an lenserror. With an external reader I can get no connection either, so the question is: how...

Have you checked that the external reader is definitely SDHC compatible?

I've encountered a few which have a slot labelled with every variation of the SD/MMC format but which have proven not to be SDHC compliant. Generally these have been the cheapest unbranded readers or on branded (counterfeit?) readers from unreliable sources.

If this is not the case then you either have an SDHC card with corrupted data or a faulty card. Corrupted data can usually be recovered with data recovery tools, but all you can do with a faulty card is to ensure that the terminals are clean and to try it in another reader.
