Re: Err 99 with Rebel Digital

I am having the same problem. Just talked to canon tech support and the digital camera is too fast for the lense. This lense was designed for a 35mm camera. His suggestion was to just buy a new one directly from canon. he said on some settings it will work, others it will work some times, and other times it wont work at all

This lens will work with any Canon dSLR. You'll have to decide on the proper balance between price and features. Canon puts out new camera models frequently, so it's your call.

Quantaray makes lenses with a variety of mounts. A lens with a Nikon mount, for example, will not fit onto a Canon camera. Assuming you have a lens with a Canon mount then yes, you can use it on your Rebel.

Quantary Tech-10 75-300mm use with Canon Rebel XTi

Hi all
On most lenses the way to test if your old lens works on a cannon digital to set the camera to AV then set the iris to the small setting ie F16/F22 then use the stopdown button.
Things that might happen
1 The lens will close down OK
2 The error 99 will show, will need are rechip if avaliable
3 Nothing happens, will need a rechip

Q.Why will it work inside but not outside.
A. Inside the camera needs light so the iris is full open, outside the lens needs to close down and if not compatible it is unable to close down. will need a rechip

I have been researching this problem and found there's nothing you can really do. Appararently, the quantaray, being an older lens, wasn't made to work with this latest era of cameras. Though it might work perfectly with your older camera, its technology is outdated as it relates to digital cameras1.gif and can't mesh with the latest and greatest. By the way, most of my questions were answered on the Digital Camera1.gif Resource page (
