Question about Toshiba MW27FN1 27 in. TV/VCR/DVD Combo

1 Answer

Closed captions Hi, recently I bought (for a very good price) very lightly used Toshiba MW27FN1 TV, DVD ,VCR combo unit. We are very pleased with picture and sound, but for some unknown reason I can't turn closed captions ( cc ) on. This TV set is connected to a satellite receiver so signal strength and quality is more then good. Before I've had a very simple Sanyo 25" TV set hooked up to the same receiver and never had a problem with closed captions. TV is connected via RCA cable and signal is on Line 1. When I press closed caption button on my remote control it shows closed captions ch1 or ch2 and text ch1 or ch2, but no captions will be shown on the screen. I know captions should be on "closed captions ch1" , and there is usually a few seconds time delay after cc are turned on. Also I know that not every program or movie has closed captioning available, so I made sure the cc is available on program I tried to turn cc on. I?ve tried different connections via coaxial cable and couple another things but nothing helped. I don't know if its something with cc decoder inside the TV or what. Like I already said my old TV shows cc in same place without any problems. I hope somebody can help. Thanks. peteroctober.

My cable remote will not turn my Toshiba MW27FN1 TV/VCR/DVD combo off and the buttons on my tv do not work

That is an issue for your cable company to resolve. You rent their gear so it has to work since you are paying them good money for rental. Make them earn it.

THE DVD WON'T OPEN OR PLAY ON MY TOSHIBA TV/VCR/DVD COMBO MW27FN1

check either the front or back of television for a small pinhole, that should be the emergency eject hole, place unwound paper clip in hole to eject disk, however, this will probably be re-occuring and dvd player will need to be replaced.

White lines at top of screen - can't make go away

You have a problem in the vertical output circuit. Check for bad capacitors around the vertical output IC. The value of these caps are marked on the side of them. Thanks for using fixya. Please take a moment and rate this responce.

I recently bought a new DVD/VCR machine. The VCR is the problem, tapes are jumpy, many lines across the screen and close captions are distorted. EVen just watching TV without tape or DVD, close captions...

Hi Carrie

Not to worry, son-in-laws are good!

Assuming the machine is working correctly, there is only one reason why the picture will be distorted and that is interference.

Here are a couple of things your son-in-law may be able to check for you.

Firstly, make sure that the DVD/VCR is connected to the television using a scart lead. The DVD/VCR was probably supplied with one. It is a short cable with a large rectangular connector at each end.

If a scart lead is already being used, there may be other units connected to the tv that are causing interference. Try removing all the other units like cable tv, satellite receivers etc and see if the DVD/VCR is any better when it is the only unit connected to the tv. If it is, you will need to use a scart selector box so you can switch each unit connected to the tv separately. (Sorry I know it's getting confusing now!)

If it still isn't any better, ask you son-in-law to check through the menu on the DVD/VCR and look for a setting for Video Format. This should be set to PAL Format unless you are in North America in which case it should be set to NTSC Format.

Hope this helps, please feel free to ask me for more info if you still have problems.

Regards
Helen
