connect the antenna cable---enter in menu and press autoprogram.

I assume this means "channel 3." In this case, it is likely that your grandmother pressed the "display" button, which shows all of the relevant information on the screen. It sounds like the tv tuner on the emerson has gone bad if the directv box is not working on channel 3. Try channel 4 on the emerson tv and see if it works. If not you may consider using the game input for directv and disconnecting the dvd player or game console and then reconnecting them only when you use them. You would need to disconnect directv from the game input each time to use the dvd player or game console. Oterwise for simplicity buy another tv. not worth repairing these days

on some tv's you can access the menu by pushing both channel up and down buttons at the same time and then use the volume buttons and the channel buttons to navigate the menu. otherwise you might have to get a programmable remote.

look in the menu settings for display or on the front control panel.
