Laptop won't run on ac power and keeps shutting down

Toshiba P25 laptop won't run on ac power alone and replacement battery didn't help and replacement power cords didn't help; sometimes it will run fine and other times just shuts down out of the blue. i love my laptop but miss her

I just took my computer in for the same issue. Two weeks later it's broken again. I'm was told by Toshiba that the pin is part of the motherboard and the best "fix"is to get a new one. Well the MB is 330 bucks so does anyone know where to find a less expensive option?

    Thanks

I have same problem, sometimes the unit will run fine for hours then just quit. not shutdown, just stop. In a very quiet room, I can hear and slightly feel the fan nearest the AC plug come one briefly.
Sometimes I can get the ac cord in just the right position and it will run but if anything moves it stops.
When I am inserting the power plug, the battery light may come on or may not. If I can get the male plug positioned just right then the battery light stays on and I can operate for quite a while unless the cord moves.

It will rarely run with just the ac and no battery.

Check that the AC power works, go to a repair shop and test a different one or have voltages checked with a multimeter.

If the AC adapter is fine, then it is usuall because AC socket solder joints on laptop are broken. In this case , it is a delicate repair, and must be done by an expert repairman.

Ifthe laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be wornout. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cyclesand will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up atall. ORThe battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected thebattery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. Ifthe battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to bereplaced.

Laptop shuts off when AC adapter plugged in
Problem description: The laptop shuts off when AC power adapter is plugged in. The laptop works fine on battery power but as soon as you connect it to AC adapter, the laptop turns off.
Possible cause: 1. Power adapter failure.
2. Motherboard failure.

Possible troubleshooting steps and repair solution: First of all, test the power adpater. Make sure the apdapter outputs correct voltage. It's possible that the outup voltage is not correct and the laptop shuts down to prevent the damge. Test your laptop with anohter known good power adapter.
If the problem still exists, even after replacing the adapter, most likley it's the motherboard failure. Replace the motherboard

You may have a DC connector problem:

Symptoms of a broken power jack
1. If you wiggle the power cord or the AC Adapter connector on the back of the laptop, the power LED and battery charge LED start to flicker.
2. Battery will not charge in the laptop.
3. Laptop runs fine off a charged battery.
4. With the AC Adapter connected the laptop appears to be dead.
No power LED or battery charge LED activity.
5. Laptop randomly powers off without any warning.

If your laptop is out of warranty, then you can fix the problem by re-soldering DC-IN jack on the system board. If it

My charger does not power up my Toshiba Satellite A305, is it the motherboard?

Have you tried running it without the battery?
  • If this works, then the battery has died. Replace it or run on p/s alone.
  • If not, and the power supply is definitely working, then the laptop itself needs repair.

Hi,
Remove the battery and then press the power button for 45 sec then refix the battery and check that the machine is turning on or not?
If the laptop is not working on AC alone then this is the issue with the converter which is there on the motherboard.

When you say you turn it on, do any of the lights on the laptop light up? Does it make any beeps?

Have you done anything to your laptop or has anything happened that you think might have caused this?

Start off by simplifying your setup as much as possible to eliminate any outside influences.

Remove anything plugged into the laptop. Then unplug power and remove the battery. With battery out and power disconnected, hold down the power switch 15 seconds (this can clear out a corrupt BIOS).

Reconnect only AC power and try to power up. Verify your AC power has a power light lit up and all connections are snug.

If no go, try only with the battery and no AC.

Still no go, remove battery and any removable drive (CD, DVD, etc.). Connect AC power and retry boot.

If you feel comfortable removing the hard drive, remove it and retry boot.

If all drives are out, all external and internal devices removed and still no display, try removing the memory and putting it back in (reseating it).

Let me know if that helps or if you need further help.

Does it cut out on battery?
How often does it cut off?
Does it just die (no lights or anything) or reboot?
