I have a D200 and the battery compartment door came off. I'm not sure if the little plastic hinge piece broke. It seems to be asymmetric: a rod sticks out on one side and forms a pivoting hinge. On the other side there is no rod, and I can't tell from looking at the plastic whether it is broken or simply a rather rough finish. Are there meant to be two rods sticking out of this piece? Can I buy a replacement door?
-   It wasn't the door that broke, it was the little "keeper" on the body itself that broke. Nikon wants $140 to repair. I told them to ship it back unrepaired and I would continue to use my MD200 battery pack.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to the replacement of that part. What is involved in removing what is left inside?

The battery door is meant to come off so the MB-D200 battery pack can be inserted, but it sounds as if yours has broken. There should be equally-sized rods that form the pivoting hinge, on on top and one on the bottom. Yes, you can buy a replacement part, probably through a local dealer or online. I believe online they cost around $20-$25. To remove the door, you are supposed to open the door to a 60-degree angle to the camera body and gently pull the door off. To replace the door, again, hold the door at a 60-degree angle to the body and gently press it into place. Or you could pay a repair shop an arm and leg to do this for you ($50 or more + shipping if you use a mail order repair shop).
I remember the 'good old days' when film SLR's were made to take a beating. Sadlly, we're in the era of plastic and I always have to remember to treat every piece of equipment as if it were made of glass!
Hope this helps?

The "S, CL, CH.." spindle of my Nikon D200 seems to have slipped about 90 degrees to the left - ie when set to S, it is like it is on the open shutter mode, and it twists backwards from S not forwards to CL when activated. How can i get this back to read properly? While the camera is still functional, its not ideal. Thanks for the help!
