Question about Sunbeam 5833 ExpressBake Bread Maker

1 Answer

Dense bread Every loaf I make is very dense, not light and fluffy like bread should be.I previously had a Sanyo machine and the bread was perfect.I use the receipes that are in the sunbeam manual and follow instruction to a tee.I find that the bread is more of a yellow color and wonder why the bread isn't white like it should be.Does anyone use a different receipe with better results? So far I'm not happy with the results from this breadmaker and don't use it as much as I would like.

Try a different recipe--highly recommend The Bread Machine Cookbook by Melissa Clark it may be out of print, but can order from Amazon for less than $3.00. Also, if your bread is too dense, you can try adding a little wheat gluten flour, found in the baking section at most large grocery stores, including Walmart. However, a little of this goes a long way! I never need to add to my white bread, but it is wonderful for whole grain breads as it greatly improves the texture. Wheat gluten is made from the inside of the wheat kernel and is very high in protein, also helps your bread rise, so try starting with one teaspoon for your white bread and use up to one fourth of a cup with whole grain breads. A little of this stuff goes a long way!!!! Do read the introduction in the little paperback cookbook I recommended, it really helped me to understand the hows and whys of breadbaking, and I had to throw away many a loaf, before I read this section of the cookbook.

Need recipy for sanyo bread maker model SBM-11

Hi bread machine recipes are all interchangeable. I could email 3 recipe books from various makers. Just be sure that your machine will make the loaf size that the recipe describes. In other words if your machine will make a 1.0 pound loaf and a 1.5 pound loaf you can't put ingredients in for a 2 pound loaf recipe. I would ask $5.99 for all 3 to be emailed to you. Do you know the capacity of your machine? 1, 1.5, or up to 2.0 pound loaves? Let me know if I can help you.

Household-use bread machines are only designed for use inside the home, requiring ambient temperatures of 70 to 80 degrees F and a humidity level not exceeding 60 percent. Hope this helps.

The flour I am using in All purpose - the book states it is ok to use in Canada. I also tried AP flour then tried a loaf with AP flour and added wheat gluten...still heavy.

If you want really good bread you need to ditch the all purpose flour. It will always be more dense and short compared to bread flour. Be sure to buy a bag of flour that says "bread flour" on the bag.You will get a more normal looking and tasting bread.

Dense, misshapen (maybe undercooked?) loaf!

A COMMON problem is to use regular flour instead of the "bread flour".

I stack the ingredients in a particular order for my Hitachi brand breadmaker. The liquid goes in on the bottom. Then the BREAD FLOUR ( high glutten), then other powdered ingredients EXCEPT the yeast... It goes on top so as to be exposed and activated the last thing during mixing... The flour I use is the "Better for Bread" brand. Using regular enriched flour usually results in a paperweight half as tall as it should be.

After initial mixing, the dough should be in a ball and not really sticking to the sides of the container.

When i make whole wheat bread, the loaf comes out dense and short. I added gluten and about 1/8 cp more water. Still a problem.

My bread machine recommends stopping the machine about ten minutes in, and re-starting. The extra kneading/mixing is supposed to help. I've been doing that, and never have a problem with whole wheat bread.

Every time I bake a wholemeal loaf, it bakes well enough, but it tapers off to one end. This problem does not seem to occur with white bread, which rises evenly throughout the length of the loaf.

Fast Action Easy Bake yeast is supposed to help with improving the volume of a loaf, but you can add 1/4 tsp of Vitamin C powder (ascorbic acid) to whole wheat loafs to improve the rise. Sometimes mixing the flours helps as a small amount of white (30%) can make the loaf less dense. Make sure you use the best quality flour you can afford - the cheap ones don't always make such a good loaf.

HHH Error Code

Generally, an HHH error code means the machine is sitll too hot from making the previous loaf. Keep the door open for a bit and allow it to cool down.
