Check player's setup menu to make sure it's not set for a wide-screen TV if you don't have one.

Monica....do you mean "Squashed" ? or are you describing a screen image that it distorted or out of shape in some way so as to be unacceptable to view properly?
If the picture is visually perfect but not filling the screen the way you prefer...then yes...Use your DVD unit remote control to "Setup" the screen display aspect ratio(how wide by how high" following the instructions in your user manual. If this fixes your problem...fine...if not, I look forward to your next posting which I encourage you to describe more fully in words that convey the problem more succinctly. Hope this helps - hattonhall

It is resolution adjustment that needs to be made. You will have to go into the settings in the controls to adjust this to normal.Follow your owner manual and it will show you the way.

Are you certain that you are facing a Squished picture, and not a Squashed picture? If you are facing a Squished picture you should review the setup directions of both your signal source and your TV to determine that both units are consistent in format, IE both are set for widescreen. If you are facing a Squashed picture, however, there will be little that you can do other than adjusting your eyeglasses. You may have them upside-down.

My screen is showing a split picture. I can see the bottom part of the video on top of the screen. Nothing wrong with tv on cable.

had a storm come through and then our picture went funny, looks like the wording is arched rather than horizontal and picture is fuzzy and duplicated

Same problem here. Squished picture. There doesn't appear to be a way to get out of wide screen form in either the Setup or Mode menus. I have a Colby portable DVD player which has the adjustment to go from normal to wide screen. Is there another menu that I'm missing?
