Try hitting F1 key to continue first.

This is the bios telling you to set the internal clock. If this is going off, its usually after the unit has lost all power from the battery and isnt plugged in.

If this is an older laptop, the battery may not be holding a charge and keeps reseting the clock. batteries are expensive so make sure your not getting ript off.

Look up the battery price first and see if its something you want to spend money on.

It will work fine on AC power.

To set the internal clock you need to go into the bios at start up and set it. or, if you can get past the message and go into windows, setting the windows time will set the bios clock automatically and the error should go away.

You need to set the correct date and time in your system BIOS. To access that you need to press the correct key when the computer is first booted (usually DEL or F10/F2/F11).
Most computers will have a message stating press xx Key to enter setup or etc.
If this problem persists even after setting the correct time in your BIOS, your laptop needs a new CMOS battery. I recommend having a professional do this.

Date and time different each time i switch laptop on

In all probability the CMOS battery in the laptop is running down (this coin shaped battery keeps the time and date settings when the laptop is turned off). You will need to get this replaced.

Yes you can set up an RMA "return merchandice authorization" with the manufacture for 1 year date of purchase. Best Buy can pull up your purchase and print you a new receipt.

I THINK YOUR MOTHERBOARD BATTERY MAY BE DAMAGED OR DOWN. YOU HAVE TO REPALCE THE BATTERY AND TRY AGAIN TO START THE PC.

Right-click the time in the lower right, select: adjust date and time, select: internet time, select either source, select: apply (if high lighted)--otherwise close. You need to be connected to the internet for the internet time to work.

My IBM Thinkpad is not switching on?

The error message relates to the date and time setting in the BIOS, it has a wrong due to a flat BIOS battery. The needs to be replaced and the date and time corrected,
The padlock symbol indicates the laptop's BIOS has been set with a password and you cannot enter and change the BIOS settings without this password.

Replace the BIOS battery with a new one, then boot up and enter your BIOS password, then change the time & date, then save and exit.

Date and clock doesn't remain changed

Inside your computer on your motherboard there is a very small battery. It looks like a watch battery and is called the CMOS battery. The purpose of the battery is to keep a constant flow of electricity flowing through the motherboard so it can keep the time and date program running and also to keep all of your settings. If there was not battery then the date and time would stop when you shut your computer off. So it is time to change the battery for a new one and you will be good. Its not that hard but if you never worked inside a laptop then it is probably better if you found someone experienced to change it.

Error

I do not think you fixed the CMOS battery - (backup battery = CMOS battery) According to the error codes, you have a dead backup battery and the time is not set. Makes sense? 161
(Dead battery.) 1. Go to Checking the Backup Battery
2. Backup battery.
3. System board.
163
(Time and date were not set.) 1. Set time and date.
2. System board.

hope this will help.
