Question about LG Televison & Video

1 Answer

Our LG takes a while to turn on....is there someway to fix this?

It's almost like it has to "warm up" to turn on. It did not do this when we first got it. It's about 4 years old. It works fine once it turns on, but it can take up to 5 minutes sometimes.

SOURCE: television will go blank after a few minutes

sounds like you got a bad back light or invertert, Take a flash light to the screen and see if you see a faded or distorted picture if so replace the back light and or
inverter. A local tv repair shop would be ideal if you do not know how to test these things.

Thanks hope this was very helpful to you when you cast your ratings and feedback today.

You have a given a good account of the fault as the fault seems central to weakness of electrolytic capacitors in the board.
Please check the link below for some tips ;

http://www.fixya.com/support/r6055091-slow_start_up_circuit_cold_starting

Now it is important that you must find the spot where the heat is necessary to identify the rough area of fault. So open the set when cold and in the first place use a good light to look out for any capacitors that are bulged or leaked. If so you need to replace after cleaning the area of leak.make sure that the board is also looking good with the soldering joints or you can use a touch up soldering of all dry joints/suspected joints.

Finally heat the area near the power, the driver section and the processor section one at a time noticing when the set powers ON very easily. If you have a freeze-it spray the fault can be easily confirmed. Spray on the suspected section to cool so as the fault will surface up.

A bit of patience is the most important tool as you might need to proceed carefully till the suspected component is identified. Once the area is fixed you can use the soldering iron to heat the component to confirm. Some of the semiconductors/IC can also cause this issue but the possibility of electrolytic capacitors going weak is high.

Hope this helps

Try to unplug from power both the set and the box for several minutes and then power both back up---this will allow both to try to reboot.

Someone must open it and check voltages on the power supply board as the first step.

Depending on what is found boards may have to be ordered and installed to KNOW which will fix or not fix the set.

How new is it? Usually these TVs have a cool-down period, but a warm up of longer than 15 seconds is unusual. I would return it or try to get it fixed under warranty.
