How do you install a new Hard Drive

DESKTOP COMPUTER: If you want to add another hard drive besides your already existing hard drive:1) Open the left side cover of a desktop computer with a screwdriver. 2) Locate two spare red cables ends (one for data transfer, another for elictricity) and plug them to your new hard drive (you can't do anything wrong, as the plug shape for each type is unique). Remark: If you don't have any spare ends of such cables inside your computer, buy SATA data cable: and 1 SATA power cable: 3) Place the hard disk next to your already existing one and attach with screws so it won't move.
See this video:
LAPTOP COMPUTER: If you want to install a new hard disk for laptop, you normally can't have 2 hard drives - you can replace the old one (turn your laptop bottom-up, open screws at the bottom of it, open one of the smaller covers and locate your old hard drive in one of them) and reinstall the whole operation system (e.g. Windows XP) from your installation CD.
See this video:
EXTERNAL DRIVE: Or alternatively you can use it as an external hard drive (which is slower than the inner, though, because it connects to the computer through slower USB ports) - buy an external hard disk drive case:
In any case installing a hard drive is much easier than it seems, you virtually can't make a big mistake.

Hello I have 1 TB WD my hard drive it don't show up on my computer but say its working

You will need to partition and format the drive before it can be accessed as a separate drive letter.

If you are using Windows XP, Click Start -> Run

Type diskmgmt.msc and press Enter

Locate the newly installed drive (Disk 1, Disk 2 etc), right click and select New -> Partition. Follow the onscreen instructions to format the partition.

When completed, you will find the drive in My Computer as a separate drive

The following guide will provide more details:

(scroll a little and goto the section Partition a Hard Drive in Windows XP..)

HD booting in one PC but not in another

Ubuntu works with RAM and CPU Memory instead of a pc like xp that uses Virtual RAM. If the pc that could not load ubuntu doesn't have enough ram to support the reading of the Hard drive and the Operating System then it won't work and Xp will only run on the computer that xp was installed onto the hard drive.

Pc never see external HD

Is it that your PC doesn't reconize the ex. Hard drive? Or aryou unable to locate it once the HD is connected to your computer? Go to my computer and the external hard drive should be displayed below the other hard drives. If it is there, right click on it and rename it, like BOB's 500GB, or something. Also create a shortcut on your desktop to locate it easier next time.

I cant format my hard drive...

If you want to eliminate the recovery partition, my favorite method is to get a copy of Ubuntu and use it in live mode to access 'gparted' which is a good simple partition editor. If you have access to another similar method, like Partition Magic, that should be perfectly fine. Once you get the whole drive set up as one, I imagine XP should be quite happy. Unless that old drive is having other issues... (I'd probably throw 'smartctl' at it while I was in Ubuntu to see if there were any obvious impending failures.)

My pc dose not come up my maxtor basics external desktop hard drive

What OS are you using? Windows 98SE does not always recognize exterrnal hard drives. Try the external HD on a computer running Windows XP and see if that works. If it works on WinXP and not Win98SE or possibly WinME the External HD is good.

Windows xp drivers for seagate ST3160203U2-RK

Drivers are not needed for this Ext HDD.
If you go to your Computer Management>Storage Devices, you will have to assign a Drive letter for it to show in your "My Computer" as a External Hard Drive.
Also ensure that drive is set as "slave" and do not connect until computer is booted to Desktop.
All changes will take effect after reboot.
