We have 2 kodak easyshare V1253 cameras. Within two weeks of each other, the cameras would turn on then automatically just turn off. The lights turn on, the lense comes out, then it just shuts down. We tried new batteries, charged it overnight and they both did the same thing. What is wrong?
FIRST CHARGE YOUR BATTERY OVERNIGHT AND THEN REMOVE YOUR BATTERY FOR ABOUT 10 MINS PUT BATTERY BACK YOU HAVE TO ADJUST THE DATE AND TIME AFTER DATE EVERYTHING WILL BE OK BUT IF YOU ARE USING 9 OR HIGHER MEGAPIXEL YOUR BATTERY WILL BE DRAIN IN THREE TO FOUR HOURS.

I have had the same issue were the lens would not retract. took it in for extended warranty work. lens now retracts but takes lousy pictures.
When I purchased this camera family members ran out and bought thiers shortly after I did. One by one the same issue has happend to their v1253's.
I dissmantled one and found that there is a tiny battery on the power board inside of the camera. apparently the tiny battery's life is about 1 1/2 years. This battery is not serviceable as it is welded in place. I am not one hundred percent sure if this is the cause but it makes sense.
It would be nice if kodak would own up to this issue and make good on repairs as they did with my kodak 5500 all-in-one printer and it's crappy print head. Kodak has sent me 4 print heads in the 2 years I have owned it.
I have 5 of the v1253's in my family and every one of the are dead. I would think a $250 product should last longer than 1 1/2 years.

Mine does the same thing. I only had it about two weeks and it started doing this.
Got the same issue...I've had mine for a year so I thought it was a battery issue. Bought a new one and it still doesn't work....perfect timing right before Christmas.
I have the same problem with my easyshare V1253, turn on, the lens fully extends then immediately closes. I can view my favorites and review the settings but I am unable to take photos.
Same thing after owning for about a year
Yeah, this camera is crud. I like the photos but we had this problem once, sent to Kodak. They said it was sand, fixed it for free but then it happened again. I think it's a design issue. I tried taking mine apart and fiddling with it but no luck in fixing the lens.
The same happened with mine after a year.
I also have this problem and also can view my favs and menu... but in photo or movie mode it starts up and immediately shuts down. I have upgraded the firmware and have tried the fix suggested here... still broken :( The only additional thing I have to add is that the cheap little orange plastic piece that 'holds' the battery in is broken. Could this be my problem? Does it THINK there is a problem? But if so... why does the Favs option still work just fine?
Yep...Kodak is complete ****! They buy junk from China and put their name one it...but not behind it!!!! This is our second to do the exact same on year and one month later!!!! Kodak will never get any more of our money. Difficult language barrier with their so called customer service...then hung up on countless times when I demanded to speak with a supervisor. Now they want me to trade it in for another piece of junk for a measly 15% off or pay $150 for a repair?!?!?! WTF! Here we come SONY!
