I have a Dyson DC17 and I cannot get the detachable hose to pull up to use. I have tried pulling it up but it does not move and I can not use my detachable pieces. Is there a button I need to press - How do I fix?

How do you get the extension off then its raised all the way to the top?

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC25's instant-release hose and wand are designed to detach quickly and easily when you need them. There are no fiddly clips or buttons to press - when you extend the wand upwards to it's fullest extend and pull it firmly, it should separate from the main body of the vacuum:

If the wand seems jammed, or you continue to have difficulty removing it, our experts are on hand to take some further details and provide assistance. You can reach the Dyson Customer Helpline by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

I cannot remove the attachment hose

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC17. The hose should automatically detach from the cleaner when you pull the wand up to it's fullest extent. It may help to refer to the user guide supplied with the cleaner. In case you don't have yours to hand, you can view an online copy here:

http://media.dyson.com/downloads/us/floorcare/manuals/dc17_opmanual_usa.pdf

If it won't detach easily, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly so one of our experts can run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you, and provide further assistance. You can call us free on 1866MYDYSON - or if you email your details to askdysonUS@dyson.com, someone will be in contact as soon as possible.

Kind regards,

Jack

How do you disengage the wand, it is stuck? Can not pull it out.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC28. If you're having trouble removing the wand, the hose may have been twisted the last time you replaced the wand on the cleaner after use. To release it, try following these simple steps:
  • Pull up the wand as far as it will go
  • With the rear of the cleaner facing you, follow the hose down to its base, then stretch the loose section of hose away from the cleaner
  • Pull the hose release tab to detach the base of the hose from the cleaner
  • Allow the hose to untwist itself
  • Reattach the hose to the cleaner
You should find that by detaching the hose and allowing it to straighten itself, the wand is able to move freely. However, if you're unable to do this, please get in touch with us directly so we can help you further. You can call us free on 1866MYDYSON, or email askdysonUS@dyson.com. One of our experts will be happy to provide the assistance you need.

Kind regards,

I have a Dyson Animal DC28 and the wand won't pull out. This has just happened out of the blue - I was using it with no trouble up to now. I pull up and it just gets stuck. Any help would be...

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC28 Animal. From what you've described, it sounds as though the hose may have been twisted the last time you replaced the wand on the machine. This is easy to resolve by following these steps:
  • Extend the wand upwards as far as possible
  • With the rear of the cleaner facing you, follow the hose down to where it attaches to the cleaner
  • Whilst stretching the loose section of hose away from the cleaner, pull the hose release tab to detach the base of the hose from the cleaner
  • Allow the hose to untwist itself
You should now be able to pull the wand out to it's fullest extent, removing it from the cleaner. Once you've done this, simply reattach the lower end of the hose to the cleaner.

If you have any further questions, or if you'd prefer someone to talk you through this process, you can call us free on 1866MYDYSON.

Kind regards,

Jack

My Dyson DC17 is picking up on the floor, but the wand is not working. I cleaned out a clog from the port in the back, but the wand still isn't working.

If there's no suction at the end of the wand, check at the end of the hose. If none here, then there's none at the powerhead, so it's not picking up either.
Check the hose. A clog at the tank port generally result in a clog in the hose as well. If none are visible, detach hose completely, hold one end up and drop a coin in. Lifting the hose should result in the coin falling through. Not doing so means a clog. You may be able to push it through with a broom handle. If that doesn't work, try holding the powerhead end of the hose to the tank port. Turn the vacuum on. This may provide enough suction to pull the clog through.
If not, and you have access to a shop vac or air pressure hose and generator, try blowing the clog out with one of these. Or you can buy an air mattress pump and try that.

Suction from hose isnt strong enough. Vacuum

There is probably a clog on the U channel (little Gray tube that attaches to the Vac tubing). Pull it loose and look in side all the tubing.
