If there are no volume buttons on the device, and you know it is switched to the correct source, then yes, you'll need a remote.

I need to know what type antenna it needs

What you need can be as simple as a "dipole antenna", or as complex as an FM antenna on your roof. A dipole antenna looks rather like the letter T, with the top part of the T about 3' wide, and the base part long enough to reach your set. Make it out of lampcord, extension cord, etc. The connection looks like this:
'-------------------------------------------'
'----------------' '-------------------------'
' '

the vertical bars are connections on the ends of the "T", and the base connects so it all makes a loop. The size isn't really critical.

You can buy one for under $10

The CD plays one or two songs and then stops and the sliding doors open

This indicates the CD player is having issues reading the disc. Here's my fix on dirty CD lenses:
CD just says loading
This can be as simple as a dirty CD lens. CAUTION!! The lens is delicate! I wipe CD lenses with ONE drop of glasses cleaner on a Q-tip and, starting in the center, wipe in circles to the outside. Do not press down! Do not force the lens side to side. It will move while cleaning but don't put more pressure than needed to move the lens 3/4 way down!
Its a cheap test to see if there is a fingerprint on the lens. (You won't be able to see it - does not take much)
If this does not help, it means it needs a laser or worse.

Stereo Reciever model CA-D4T:cd changer won't "read cd" and sometimes says "no disc" when thereis one in there! Sometimes out of the blue it will work but mostly not! Any help would...

This is an indication that either the lens is dirty or that the optics are failing. Try opening up the unit and cleaning the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. If that does not resolve the problem, the optics will need to be replaced.
