Question about Nikon D50 Digital Camera

New Camera can't set the language

I got a new Nikon D40 today and put the memory card in before setting up the menu. The menu comes up in Japanese. After looking at the manual I see the menu to choose a language only comes up the 1st time you turn the camera on. I didn't get that menu. I guess because the memory card was already in. Don't know. Is there some way to get this camera set to English? Thanks, fayrae

Brand new SD card - says card is full? Nikon D40

Are you sure it is full, did you put it into a computer to check? Maybe the picture resolution is very high or you have videos and there is more than 2Gb worth of photos.

Dear jayrihno,
In case you mean changing the language in the camera, than you can do this by going to: Menu/Settings/Main Settings/Language Settings. From there you can change the language to your preferred language. I also have the user manual for this camera, in case you need it, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Formatting PC Cards for use in Nikon digital cameras Formatting PC Cards for use in Nikon digital cameras -->
Nikon strongly recommends using the digital camera to format PC cards before use in the camera. Formatting in the camera ensures the proper settings and will give the most reliable operation. Cards can also be formatted using a computer, but the "File System" setting must be changed to "FAT" before formatting (see screen shot to the right. If left at any other setting the card will not work in the camera.
Cards can not be formatted using a Macintosh computer.

My S 304 has came to me with setting of language to Japanese, I wana make it English, Pl help me

It appears that the camera comes in different versions, depending on the region. The "western" version has English, German and French language, but not Japanese. If you camera has Japanese menu, it is probably intended for the Asian market. It may not have English menu.
You can switch language like this:
Press Menu/OK, select the far most right option (Set), select the top option (Setup), press Menu/OK.
Select the second lowest option (laguage) (the lowest being Reset),
use > to display available languages. Use up- or down arrow to select the language and press Menu/OK.

Entered wrong language during intial set up

The language selection can be found on page 84 of your manual...or if you dont have this enter the menu page in your cam, there is a logo there that looks like a wrench, you can find the language settings there.

Access light is blinking.

We have a D40X and had a similar problem!
What I did was pretty much reset everything! Take the batteries out, reset to factory settings and reinsert media card. I'm sure the other users did not do permanent damage and it may just be attempting to process corrupt data.
Hope you are taking pix again SOON!

Try "Custom Settings Menu" -> "06 No memory card?".
Does it have any influence?

Nikon D40 Memory Card Error

Hello. Make sure the write-protect switch on the SD card is in the UP (nearer to the contacts) position. Try the card in an SDHC capable reader on your computer first. Note that the SD card can only be inserted one way - make sure you're not putting it in upside-down! If the computer recognizes the presence of inserted card (whether it can read it or not), format it at FAT32. When finished, remove properly (icon in system tray) and insert into your D40 slot, WITH THE CAMERA OFF!! Turn on the D40, and if it now recognizes the SD card, FORMAT it again, in the camera. Good luck.
