If you have a cable box and can set your TV to channel 3 then you should be able to watch cable. If you want to watch over the air broadcasts then you need a digital converter box which you can buy at Best Buy for around 40 dollars. You use the converter box as the tuner and set your TV on channel 3. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Coby+-+ATSC+Standard-Definition+Converter+Box/9663904.p?id=1218140711965&skuId=9663904&st=digital%20converter%20box&cp=2&lp=5
Go to "Device Manager" and look for anything that has a yellow question mark. If you see this, you need to run the set up program for that device to install the driver/.inf file and let the setup program set other parameters.
Since you reformatted, you removed all your previous settings unless you backed those up previously. If it came with the laptop from the store, it should have come with a CD or DVD rom with the install program.
If you lost that, or cannot find it, go to the Sony website, select "support" and locate that driver or set up program and download it. Make an archive copy of it in case it is needed in the future. The device manager should identify what model of tuner card you have.
There is no battery to replace to hold preset channels. The preset channels are held by a charged capacitor to maintain the nominal voltage level to the PLL (phase lock loop) tuner. The capacitor can only hold the charge for a few hours, and then it will slowly discharge - for like a short power outage.
For clock turn key on and stereo off. Press and hold the function button for 3-5 seconds. the clock should appear with the hours flashing. Use the up-down buttons to set hours. Push the right button to set the minutes. Now turn on the stereo with the source (or power) button and your done!
Remember key on stereo off. hold function, the rest will become second nature once you've done it a few times.
Tuner pre-sets are super easy. Tune to the station you want and then just hold the # button (1-6) that you want that station on for about 3 seconds. The channel your on, (e.i 104.9) will flash a couple of times and then stop flashing. When it stops flashing it's in the memory. Tune your next channel and hold # 2,3,4,5,6, If 6 isn't enough push BAND and your on FM-2 with 6 more pre-sets, Push it again for FM-3 with 6 more presets. Push it a 3rd time for the AM band with 6 pre-sets and one more time to get back to FM-1.
Hi, I bought an FT-5500 in 1983 that I haven't used for ten years but I still have the manual which states the following re pre-sets:
1. Tune into the station to be memorised with the tuning key.
2. When the memory write key is depressed the memory write key indicator lights continuously for about 5 seconds after the FCCS operation with FM reception and immediately with AM reception. One of the 10 preset keys is depressed for memorising the station while the indicator is lit. When the key is depressed the indicator goes off, the memorizing operation is completed and the next time you want ot listen to the station it can be recalled by depressing the corresponding preset key. If the preset key is depressed during this interval and the FCCS data & broadcassting station are memorised the indicator goes off.
There is more but I think this should be enough to get you going.
Turn the device on that you want to program. Press and hold
Set for 2 seconds. When the light is on, press the device button you want to set. Then press the Channel + or - and press power after. When the device turns off, press enter and your code is saved. If all functions do not work after this, repeat the process until you get the right one.
Check the instrucitons to verify if the channel table is pre-setable to designate your own numbers.
Most TV sets have an autoprogramming for the channels. Look in the menu for the auto programming and let the set re-program the channels if your set has that option. This feature will re-program the channals, and re-set their defaults.
If the channels are not able to be pre-setable to a custom table, then this indicates that there is a pre-scaling fault in the tuner or in the uPC. In this case, the set will need service.
