Question about Belkin (F5D5231-4) Router

1 Answer

System down- double pinging

My belkin router loses internet connection, it goes offline from 10 seconds to 5 min. My ISP tells me my connection shows to be fine, then they ran a ping and it showed to be (double pinging?) but they cannot figure out why. I have wireless internet as I live out in the country, but I am within a 1/2 mile of the tower without any obstructions. They have replaced all the cables, both radios, (inside and out). They also changed my ip address.

I did download the new driver, and in doing so found a place in my settings that allowed for a time out session for server maintenance, so I turned that function off. Maybe that is what is causing my internet to drop out every half hour

My cisco 877 dsl router sometime disconected from internet itself and after 5 or 6 hours its return back what can be the problem

1. check the status to the router page by logging into the router to see if the router lost connectivity.
2. Pinging an outside address will tell you if you have lost connectivity with the ISP or not.
Ping test = Ping www.yahoo.com
this is within the router

I have a belkin n+ wireless router and all of the sudden i cannot brouse the internet. Although i can still use other applications that require the internet to run. What could be the problem?

Check for viruses and malware. If your other applications are accessing the internet, your router, modem, and internet connection is likely working properly. If possible, use another computer to verify that internet is working and narrow it down to a problem with your computer before making any modifications to your modem and router. You might also try opening a command prompt and pinging to verify your connection. Example: "ping google.com" and if you get replies, your modem and router are working, if you get "Request Timed Out," DNS is getting through, also meaning your internet is probably working, but being partially blocked, and if you get "Unknown Host," DNS (name to IP translation) service is not getting through, and it could be a problem with your router or ISP. This won't fix your problem, but it may help you narrow it down.

Loose connection all the time. The Modem is brand new. Sometimes the internet is fine but then unexpectadly it goes off then comes back on after 5 mins.

Does this happen only when connected to the router or does it happen when connected to the modem directly ? if router is the issue, then I would suggest you upgrade teh firmware of the router. that could help . If it happens with the modem connected directly also, please talk to the ISP.
Thanks

No internet connection

I received this solution from Belkin. It worked for me & I hope it does for you. Good luck!

Belkin solution:

Please follow the details given below:
1. Please contact your internet service provider to know the connection type details (Is it PPPOA,PPPOE, Dynamic or static)
2. Belkin router F5D8633 ADSL router works only with ADSL broadband connection and does not support Cable broadband connection.
3. Do not use the Setup CD Assistant; reset the unit and configure it manually. Make sure to set the correct VPI/VCI values in the process as the default settings may not be correct.
4. When using PPPoA, always use VcMux encapsulation, when using PPPoE, always use LLC encapsulation. Keep the VPI and VCI as 0/38.
5. Please follow the instructions given below to configure the router manually:
- Connect the phone line direct to the router, or through the filter.
- Connect the computer to one of the LAN ports on the router.
- Switch off the router and power it back after 5 seconds.
- Restore the router to factory defaults by holding down the reset button on the back of the router.
- The power light will flash and then come back ON solid, indicating that the router is being restored to factory defaults.
- The corresponding lights on the router should be lit-up.
- Check if the computer has an IP address in the range of 192.168.2.x
- Click on `start` & click `Run`.
- Type in `cmd` & click `ok`.
- Type `ipconfig` and Enter. Check for IP address, subnet mask & Default Gateway.

- You should be able to access the routers set up page.
- By default the password is blank.
- Click on Connection Type and Reconfigure the connection on the router (using your ISP details).
- Save the Changes.
Note: Please obtain the correct values regarding the Internet connection from your Internet Service Provider.

it is normally 192.168.1.254 for this router, but if you have pinged it the router must be ok, double check your isp password and usename and PPOe or PPOA setting and that the mtu is set correct for your isp.

when you upgraded did any settings from your isp change like passwords or usenames that your router may not be registering at your isp's server, or the line speed that you are now getting is not suported by the router.

type 192.168.2.1 in your web browser and check the connection settings.
