SOURCE: Some buttons work, some don't.

The keypad may be bad. Most often they go bad due to moisture from cleaners being sprayed directly on them or steam from the cooktop when the vent fan is not used.

They can also go bad when the unit is stored in an unheated environment where there's a lot of air temperature change (hot during the day, cold at night, etc.)

It may also be some residue on the connections where the keypad plugs into the control board. Unplugging then replugging the keypad can sometimes clean them.

In other cases, a new keypad is needed.

SOURCE: GE microwave oven - just stopped stopped working

A microwave can be dead for many reasons.

If the fuse is good, it may be an open thermostat or thermal cutout (TCO) / thermal fuse on or near the magnetron or on top of the cavity / body of the oven.

If it goes dead for a while during or after cooking then comes back on, the magnetron is probably overheating and causing the magnetron thermostat to open.

Then when it cools, it closes the circuit and allows power through again.

When checking thermostats, if it has a hood fan thermostat, that should read open, as opposed to the others, which should read closed.

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

If it goes dead or blows the breaker when you plug it in or open or close the door, then there's a problem with a door switch or door switch mount.

If it's intermittent or random, it may be a bad connection, usually on the control board or a loose fuse holder, or even an intermittent fuse.

You should do a continuity test on the fuse while it's in the holder (with the microwave unplugged, of course) then turn the fuse by hand or take it out and put it back in, then test it again.

If you remove the fuse, then press the meter leads against the ends, it can allow internal contact to be made and make a bad fuse appear to be good.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

NOTE: There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting.

SOURCE: My GE Profile Microwave/Convection Oven stopped working.

Chances are that the thermostat / thermal cutout / T.C.O. (whichever it uses) has opened.

This can happen when the magnetron overheats, either due to it's failing, or if the internal cooling fan is not working.

It may also that be the 15- or 20A ceramic line fuse or the oven cavity thermostat / thermal cutout / T.C.O. (whichever it uses) has opened.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

You should be able to get the fuse from a home center or local appliance parts store.

Accessing some components for testing and possible replacement will require you to remove the oven from the wall.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

Ge profile microwave/convection oven. Do you need to remove glass turntable when in the bake mode. What does cook mean on sensor cooking? What is display speed in the clock mode? Thanks

Hello, Jacque -

GE provides a website which offers owner's manuals. This is the link: https://www.geappliances.com/ge/service-and-support/literature.htm . You will need to enter the model number for your microwave/convection oven to find, save, and print the manual.

Best wishes.

Display is blank

If the display is blank, and the oven works, 9 times out of 10 it is a problem with the circuit board that drives the display.

Advantium display reads "nite"

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for about 5 minutes. Feel free to contact me directly (see below) if you have other questions.- William E. Miller, AS-EET

GE JVM1790WK convection microwave

I assume you've referred to your owner's manual to be sure you are operating the convection properly?

If for some reason you don't still have your owner's manual, you can get it here. See the tips on page page 30.

You can also do a hard reset by unplugging the oven for a couple of minutes, plugging it back in, then setting the clock and trying again.

If it's still not working, you may have a bad sensor or other problem.

My microwave/convection oven (a GE unit model JES1290SK) started beeping every few seconds and displaying F6 on the control panel. I unplugged it and waited several minutes and when plugged in it displays...

The technical sheets in my files do not list F6 on the error code chart for GE microwaves.

Generally, these are the error codes possible on GE microwaves:

F1 open thermal sensor (convection models)
F2 shorted thermal sensor (convection models)
F3 key panel shorted for more than 60 seconds
F4 open humidity sensor
F5 shorted humidity sensor

There should be a "mini-manual" (technical sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, & testing.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for about 5 minutes and try it again.

If it's still not working, it may have a failed keypad or a problem with the controller.

Most likely problem is your Smart card has fried. Its located on the removable panel that your display is attached to.If you remove the screws that open this Clock Panel (un plugged from power first) the display panel will swing down and you will see the circuit board I mention (Smart card/control board ).Look for a visible burn on this board. If you see one ,replace the board.
