Question about Video Cameras

JVC GR-D395u memory card question continued...

I asked, "I would like to buy a memory card for my camera. Page 26 of the manual has a chart showing the approximate number of pictures an 8MB, 16MB, 32MB, or 64MB card will hold. Does the camera support larger capacity cards (4GB-16GB)? Does it support the newer SDHC format?"

Thank you for responding to my question. Unfortunately, I received two yes, and one no...therefore, I still have the same quandry...

your answer states the camera does support the SDHC format, do you know where i could find documentation to support your opinion? I want to believe you but on the other hand, I don't want to spend money on a memory card that may (in your opinion) or may not (in Drumbanger's opinion) work...

A very fair question and my opinion is based on educated guess. so my take is this if the camera is new ( 6mo or newer) it uses the SDHC because the new standard is backwards compatible. also the manual references the high capacity sd cards ( I looked at the PDF online) I can't imagine the camera not using SDHC when it doesn't reference standard sd cards. You still may want to buy your card somewhere that will take it back easily.

Hope this helps and let me know what you decide. good luck

I had another thought on next to the sd slot there should be a symbol and the letters SD or SDHC. that should be definitive.

Jvc gr-d395u video camcorder, move mini dv to computer

How it's supposed to work is to get a program that recognizes the camera, then the tape can be captures. Windows Movie Maker never supported it. In fact Microsoft doesn't even support it anymore. They have recommended using Pinncale Studio to work with DV cameras.

Once you install Studio, put the tape in, turn the camera on, Studio will load up.

Here is the link for the manual if you need it; Page 29 shows the connections for video output to a tv or vcr so either of these configurations would work to a video capture card installed in your pc (please ask again if you need more info on these cards - a quick walk round your local computer shop should give you an idea, and they will also have the necessary cables.) Hope this helps :)

Connection to the PC

In order to connect your GR-D70US to your USB port, you must insert an MMC or SD memory card into the camera, however neither of these cards is included with the GR-D70US, and the card must be purchased separately. You may contact the JVC parts department at 1-800-882-2345 or visit the JVC online accessory store to purchase a MMC or SD memory card. Some local retailers may also carry these memory cards.
