Question about Gateway Computers & Internet

A month out of warranty, our Gateway FX530S broke down (Serial Number 0040289739). We called in the Geek Squad and they replaced the power source. However, less than a month later, the computer "died" again. We were told it is the motherboard. What can be done to help us as we believe the computer should have lasted longer than a year and a month!!!!!! This is our 4th computer from Gateway. REG & LAG

Hi,
I sympathize with your problem, however Gateway would be the ones to contact directly to complain.  As they say the squeaky wheel gets the grease.  I would ask to speak to a escalated case manager in order to resolve it.  If they still don't give an inch, I might suggest a Dell or HP, who will stand behind their products.

Gateways are not that good of a pc, they are only built to last about a year (they won't tell you this of course) the best thing you can do at this time is buy extended warranty on the laptop, wait about 2 weeks and send it in for repair, it will work out much cheaper than having to replace the motherboard

I have been told by Best Buy' Geek Squad that my desktop computer needs a new motherboard. Where can I get one put in at a reasonable price?


you have a number of options, depending where you live
Ebay, microdirect, ebuyer are all good sources of motherboards plus Amazon.

Why is it that you need a new motherboard? Is yours broken or is it just that you want a faster machine?

Have a Gateway 700 X Desktop that powers up, loads XP O/S, and then powers down after approx. 15 seconds and reboots. This goes into a loop repeating this process. Any ideas ?


This could be a result of you accidently hitting your desktop while trying to move it and you may have knocked the fan off. You can't hear if the fan has been disconnected but it causes the tower to overheat and it will shut off and reboot over and over and over. Please contact geek squad or go to your nearestn licensed retailer and see how much it will cost to replace the fan, if needed. It will be covered under warranty if you have one.

Gateway PC screen blank, geek squad diagnosis motherboard issue


You could replace the motor board for less than $100 but I think the geek squad says the motor board is bad on every computer that doesn't start right up for them so I would have someone else look at it first. Or just get a new computer at walmart for like $300

Well if you wanting a gateway motherboard you going to be digging a little more into the pocket book, May i suggest you buy a upgrade kit from a place called tigerdirect.com or frys.com price would be under $200.00 Availability would be depending on the shipping method you use and how to install this :


Unplug everything open the case, unplug and label you cables! From all sources on the motherboard take a phillips screw driver and unmount the main board. Place the new board reversing these steps. If you need more assistance please CHAT with us we are here 24/7 and will run you step by step for a small fee.. or take it to the GEEK squad and have the motherboard installed around $45 bucks..

the front bezel for the computer of the monitor?
if it is the computer, it contains power switch, USB port.
if it is monitor, then it is just cosmatec.
if you are curize, call gateway and find out if they the item in stock or on back order.

If your talking about the tower case you can get any cool aftermarket one here, from $40.00. If you're talking about the monitor or screen and its under warranty you need to contact the monitor's manufacturer.

Here's more info to my problem: Gateway laptop is 4 years old. Now getting message that says "System Fan Error!! !!Please turn off system and checkyour system fan!!" Computer was purchased...


Your CPU fan has failed! your heatsink overheats quickly and then shuts down to protect itself from burning up. Your motherboard is Not the problem, the fan is. This fan can be replaced by any compotent laptop technician. Make sure the tech has access to Gateway or has a source that supplys Gateway parts, as the part must be made for Gateway laptops and your model exactly! 90% of this type of problem can be repaired! Don't let non-techs at Best Buy or any other dept. store tell you your PC is "No Good". Take the time like your doing and do some research the problem before giving your hard earned cash to a 16 year old "Technician/salesman/commision/bonus" person.
If the Harddrive is undamaged and it can be mounted yes, your stuff can be saved to DVD or such. Be prepared though, this type of service can be costly so ask around and get quotes.

unless gateway will support you in this they are the only ones that can get that kind of information for you...... either that or ya could call the geek squad at best buy and have them come to your house and fix it .
