Re: My PS2 fell on the floor!
Use to have this problem alot, there is a track on the under side of the tray a little plastic pin follows, it has jumped the track, do not force it closed or you could break the track, hopefully it isnt broken already. Have you ever opened a ps2 before?
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

its not dealing with the laser. your cord inside connecting your ps2 top cover to your tray might be lose or not connecting like it should. take apart the ps2 and see if it is connected. if not place it back inside the tray slot inside of the ps2.
my friend had the same problem what he had to do was keep opening and closing the disc tray untill the 'reading disc' shows up and stays up but he got really anoyed with doing this so he got a new one shortly after this the ps3 came out...
I just looked at a friend's PS2. Same story, tripped over cord, unit fell to floor. Unit powers up and sys. config. screen comes on but the drive didn't seem to be spinning up. Opened the case and found that the shaft of the drive motor for the laser tray had popped out of it's centering retainer ( little black bushing/holder). With the top off the unit, looking at the unit from the front, on the right side in the rear corner you'll see the motor. The worm shaft (bronze colored rod) runs towards the front of the unit. Where it ends it should sit centered in a black plastic holder, if it's off to the side a little pressure will pop it back in. Put the cover back on, and power it up, you should hear the drive spinning up. If it does you should be set. Hope this helps.
There may be many problem that have occurred to make this happen, here is a list of the three most common:
You MAY have a disc jammed into the PS2, making it impossible to open (and/or) close. This could have happened by someone accidentally putting one disc right on top of a disc that is in the PS2, and not taking the other game, movie, etc., out. How to fix? Best Buy, Circuit City. Another way this could have happened is: an earthquake, flood, SOMETHING, may have happened that made a disc fall out of the tray (while INSIDE of the PS2) and jam it up, to fix this, you have to do the same as the first option.
The motor is broken, this is pretty self explanatory, the motor that makes the disc drive open and close is broken, solution? Same as before.
Your PS2 has reached it's prime, and gone over the hill, sorry buddy. :(
I hope you found this helpful, sincerely-

If your ps2 is in the upright position this could be the problem as the disc will not sit propeely and rattle around and cause scratches, the best way to have it is in the downright position as the disc tray will be flat and wont slouch down, try turning it on and pressing the close switch.
Check your disk for scratches fingerprints ect,, if thats all good step two try useing a lens cleaner
****(( tip and trick for scratched disks ))**** a crayon rubbed on the disk then wiped off with a lint free cloth no t-shirts dish towels that will just add more scratches remember start at the center wipeing out to the edge.
the best to do is the basics open your ps2 and inside open the disc box ( you can simply identify it it is the place where the disc is played) get a cotton buds and wipe gently and smoothly the lens. If still it won't work go to your nearest repair man for further advice.
