In order to get a "fix" on it's current location your GPS needs to download data from three or four GPS satellites. Typically, this should happen in about two minutes or less from the time you first power on the unit. This can take a little bit longer if its been a while since you used the GPS or if you have travelled a long way since you last turned the unit on. Your Garmin 600 should be acquiring satellites and providing a location report pretty quickly after power up.

Once thing that can affect the performance is whether not not the GPS has a clear view of the sky. If you are operating indoors, in a car, or anywhere that has a lot of obstructions (in a city with tall buildings or a forested area with a lot of trees) these things can block your GPS's view of the sky and prevent it from receiving data from one or more satellites. This can cause the GPS to be unable to provide a lock on its current location or to take a very long time in locking on.

Just connect your Garmin GPS to your computer, run WebUpdater, and follow the screen prompts. After confirming that you want to perform an update, WebUpdater will download that update for you and install it on your GPS. WebUpdater always checks for its own update first before performing a unit update. Unlike previous versions, you no longer need to download Web Updater everytime you upgrade your unit software. Once installed, simply run it from your computer —no need to download anything else yourself!

Garmin Nuvi 660 cannot acquire satellites

Hi I had this problem and its an antenna fault, give garmin a call and see if yours is still under warranty, if it is they will tell you to take it back to the retailor who will call garmin for a RA Number and they will replace it there and then. If your warranty has run out then call garmin to ask about repairs

If you start it up and are located in the place where the pin code was set, then the unit should unlock once it acquires sufficient satellite signals.

Garmin Nuvi takes a long time to Acquire satellite

No. 98% of the time it took 45-56 seonds for your NUVI 660. Thats the compagny set up time acquisition and it did very well.

Be sur you had your flip antenna parallel to earth surface.
660 has THE BEST SIRF Chipset for acquiring satellite.

I had 2 NUVI 660 since 2 years. It work much better than those new 7xx series who it really took 2-3 minutes to acquire satellite.

Be sure you update your version to the last one.
