Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

2 Answers

I have the 360 console and it has been scratching disks. Some sources say lay it flat, others stand it, get a pad, and a million other things. I want to know what exactly I can do to stop this from happening anymore

If your xbox is scratching the actual dvd have you tried to find exactly where on the disk it is that is being scratched.? I think its a matter of trying to relate the area to the actual area on the disk drive itself. If it is the surface read by the laser, then the disk has to be sitting too high in its tray which must mean mis-alignment of the tray or not sitting corectly.?? Or some part of the tray area is sitting to low. How did it happen? was the xbox bumped? As you say placing it flat rather than standing Might help, but if this continues you need either to return to retailer if there is warranty or find a reputable repair service. I had an xbox and tried to play one of the games HALO but it would not play. I dont recommend what I did as I used BRASSO, yes you heard me right. And a very very soft leather. I used a circular motion on the disk very lightly. After a minute placed disk under the COLD water tap and washed it. I then tried it and worked. I take no responsibility for you attempting this method as it can if you are not careful totally screw up the disk and possibly your drive and or your XBOX. There are solutions which can be put onto DVD surfaces which are supposed to protect them from scratches. My method would eventually damage the DVD and MIGHT only be a temporary cure.

The first thing you can do is absolutely lying the console on it's side. Microsoft has even admitted that a standing console will scratch the disk.

Other than that, there's no way to really stop it. That's the nature of the device.

The console keeps scratching my new discs

Xbox360 does that sometimes if you stand it up or have it not properly level.Make sure the console is laying on the ground flat and level and try it again. if it keep happening, your xbox tray is most likely not sliding in fully, or correctly and will have to be sent to microsoft to fix.

Scratching my games

Make sure your Xbox 360 is laying flat on it's side rather than standing up on it's end. If the console is standing up and is moved even slightly the disc will almost certainly be damaged.
This video pretty much says it all:

Noisy disc drive - has badly scratched disc in one place.

if you have your xbox standing up then you want to lay it down, i had this problem if you move your xbox when there is a disk in it, it will make a sound and scratch the disk. the best thing to do is to lay it down on a surface such as a table not the floor, if it still scratches your disks go into the place you got the game from and say your xbox scratched t and wont work anymore, they should give you a new game. if you tried this and it still does it then the best thing to do is to ring up microsoft for repair.

Loose part in console scratches disk

If the 360 is brand new the most likely thing to do is send it to Microsoft and they can fix it under warranty . If you have someone open it up it will void the current warranty and you'll have to pay for anything done to it.

Also, are you running the box laying down flat or standing up?

Xbox 360

That normally means that the disk is gettgin scratched is your xbox laying down or standing up? If its standing up and is bunped slightly the disk can shift and get scratched. Check your games for scratch rings around them.

happend to me when a friend knocked over my console while playing. ive heard that if your console is on its side then it might scratch the disk. I would suggest standing the console up and playing if its laying down. and to fix the disks buy a game doctor or take it to a store that re-buffs discs. you may also want to call microsofts support line at 1-800-4myxbox and see what they say.

Call of duty 4

I have heard that if your console is laying flat that it will scratch your discs. hasn't happened to me but maybe you should try standing it up to avoid further discs from being scratched. To fix your call of duty 4 disc you should buy whats called a game doctor if you haven't heard of it you put your disc in it and it re-buffers your dis like it was new. if that fails the only thing i can think of would be to buy a whole new game :/

I was wondering what is the best way to stand the xbox up?

If you dont want the issue of scratching lay it flat on its side. That way it cant tip over while on and ruin a game or dvd. The bugs so far have been worked out of the system, there is no real way to tell untill we start getting some feedback on the use of the 3rd gen systems.
