Hi,
Follow the steps in the same sequence

1. http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=257&modelid=13364

2. If there is no paper check for foreign objects liks pins or paper clips inside

How to remove foreign objects
When printing, if there is any foreign material (such as a piece of metal or a pencil) in the printer, the printer my be damaged. If there is any foreign material, remove it at once.

The images below show the iP2200 model.

1. Power the printer off.

2. Open the paper support and confirm that there is not any foreign material in the auto sheet feeder. If there is any foreign material, remove it by hand or with tweezers.
on my three year's old - ip1600foreignobj.jpg 3. Open the front cover and confirm that there is not any foreign material in the printer. If there is any foreign material, remove it by hand or with tweezers.
Note: Avoid touching inner parts.

4. Power the printer on and confirm that the printer operate normally.
Note: If you cannot remove a foreign material in the above procedure, the printer may require servicing. Please contact your local Service Center.

If the above two steps donot solve the problem try resetting the printer

Resetting the Printer By resetting the printer's power, the print buffer is cleared and certain sensors are reset. If there is invalid data in the buffer, or sensors are stuck in a particular mode; errors may occur. Follow these steps to reset the printer:

  1. Turn the printer off with the Power button (if available).

  2. Disconnect the data cable from the printer (not applicable to WiFi, Bluetooth or Infrared) .

  3. Unplug the printer's power cord for approximately 10 minutes, and then plug it back in. If troubleshooting a communication issue, reconnect the data cable (not applicable to WiFi, Bluetooth or Infrared).

  4. Turn the printer back on.

Thanks
Proton

What you can try is, take a piece of ~70lb cardstock, and with the POWER OFF, gently push this through the paper-path of the printer - this will help to possibly reset that switch, and will help push anything else out that's in the way that may be blocking it.

After trying everything else suggested on other sites, i tried this and it worked. I used a piece of 90 lb. drawing paper, and it took a fair amount of force to push it through. After pushing for a bit, i opened the cover and used a tweezers to pull the piece of paper the rest of the way through (and it didn't rip because it's 90lbs.). Then i turned the printer back on and the error message was gone.

I would try to clean the tires with alcohol, it's probably trying to pick up the other sheet but is slipping.
take out the tray and look inside for the pick-up and seperation tires.

Alram light

Did you replace the Black ink cartridge or the Color cartridge, or did you replace both?

Facing the front of the Canon Pixma MX310, did you install the Black ink cartridge to the left side, and the Color cartridge to the right side?

Do Not reverse how the ink cartridges go. Do Not install a Black ink cartridge, in the Color cartridge holder.

If the Alarm light came on, check to see if you have an error message in the LCD. (Not trying to insult your intelligence. The LCD is the little rectangular Liquid Crystal Display on your Pixma MX310 Operation Panel, to the left of the numeric buttons)

Do you have the Pixma MX310 On-screen manual?
Start>Hover on All Programs>Canon>Pixma MX310>On-screen manual

Click on the Troubleshooting heading.
If you have an error message code, click on the heading ->
An Error Message is Displayed on the LCD.

Also suggest you click on the heading -> Problems Sending Faxes.

See if the information provided has a solution to your problem.

In canon pixma ip1700 Alarm light orange flashes 15 times

Fifteen Flashes: The FINE Cartridge cannot be recognized.
Possible causes are as follows:
- The FINE Cartridge may not be installed properly.
- The FINE Cartridge may not be compatible with this printer.
Install the appropriate FINE Cartridge. If lines are misaligned or the resulting output is not satisfactory, carry out the Print Head Alignment.

Printer keeps saying paper jam..there is no paper jam

You can also try using a rubber eraser as the rollers are going. Just take a pencil and lightly rub along the length of the rollers as they are feeding. This should remove the film that clogs the rollers surface.

Paper Jammed Message

try turning you printer off and unpluging it from Electrecity.
after that cancell all the printing jobs at your computer.
and last do a double check on the printer to make sure that there are no more paper left-overs into the printer.

try turning the printer on (after pluging to Electricity) and see what happen.
