3, UNPLUG power cord,now carrier can move freely by hand
4, push cartridge to the left, use Q-tip with clean water to clean the cartridge seat

A firmware update for your model addresses the print quality problem that you're currently experiencing. Please visit the Lexmark website to download and install the Lexmark S400 Series Firmware Update. If more than one download is listed for your model, choose the first
download in the list. If it is the wrong firmware level, an error message will
tell you which firmware level is correct. Should the error continue to display even after successfully updating your printer, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for additional assistance. Your printhead itself might be the cause of the problem.
Try to clean the printhead nozzles on your Lexmark Impact S305 printer. From the printer operator panel, press Setup button > Maintenance > Deep Clean Printhead. Your printer will then print a page forcing ink through the printhead nozzles and clean them.
Sound like printhead problem... ask from lexmark for replace (call them +1 800-539-6275). If they refuse to give you, than search on amazon for it... here Amazon com LEXMARK 405 printhead. I hope this was helpful. Cheers
# Hold the cartridge upside down, with the
bar-code label facing you and take a damp paper towel. # Use the towel to wipe the printhead of the
cartridge on the bottom (where the ink comes out). Wipe the printhead
horizontally in one direction only (left to right). # Continue doing this until it looks clean. # Then dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure
the ink is flowing. # Next, look inside the printer and locate the
carrier that holds ink cartridges. Caution: Make sure the cartridges are not
installed at this point.
1. Look for a shiny piece of metal underneath the
contacts at the back of the carrier. 2. Take a damp cotton swab (use water only!) and
wipe along the bottom of the shiny metal piece. Note: You may need more than
