Re: Tappan Microwave oven

One of the door interlock switches are stuck. this is the latch mechanism the the door locks into. This is usually accessed behind the control panel, you may have to remove the outer skin of the microwave first. Be sure to unplug the machine for at least 1/2 hour before doing so and do not touch any exposed wiring connectors and stay well clear of the magnetron and capacitor. Do not operate the microwave with the cover off. At this point you can see the latch mechanism as you open and close the door. There will be several small switches on the interlock assembly and they will all need to be tested electrically (multimeter) to isolate the problem switch

When it's pluged in it has a beep but won't work?

Is the door closing all the way? Does the door latch in solidly? If not, that is your problem, because a dishwasher (like a microwave oven) will not operate unless the door closes all the way. And if it does close all the way, it could be a door switch that is bad, so the controller can't tell that the door is closed.

Microwave over oven starts but turns off in a few seconds when oven is hot.

Likely thermal shutdown. Insulation may be missing or out of place between microwave and the oven itself. If you see foil, that is radiant barrier, and if it is damaged, it raise the temps in the microwave cabinet enough to cause this.

This assumes no arcing or other audible or visible issues and microwave just "drops out".

I have to unplug my microwave after every time I use it because the timer keeps can I fix this?

may sound silly, but doyou remove the contents and still experience the beeping? We have a microwave that makes reminder beeps until the door has been opened after the "cooktime" has expired.

The platter rotation mechanism is weak.

This is commonly caused by a turntable motor that has worn out and needs replaced.

The motor can be replaced by following these steps:

1. Unplug microwave.
2. Open oven door and remove glass tray and carousel ring.
3. Locate and remove the screws holding the bottom panel (under the microwave) in place. With the screws removed, the bottom panel should open.
4. Disconnect the connector plug from the turntable motor.
5. Reach inside the oven and remove the coupler. This is the small plastic piece that the center of the glass tray sits on. You may have to gently pry up with a flat screwdriver to get it to come loose.
6. With the coupler removed, loosen the mounting screw(s) to the motor and it should easily come out from under the oven.
7. Install new motor in the reverse order of the steps I just provided.

This is a very simple repair. If the model number you have this question listed under is correct, the part number for a replacement motor is WB26X10024. It sells for about $17 at

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this help you.

When I close the door to the microwave, the timer is working but the microwave isn't. I believe the door latch is no longer engaging a contact point to make it work. Like the door was still open. Model #JE...

there are three switches in the door latch inside. One of them is not making contact. Remove the cover, find those switches and check for continuity with door open and door closed. If there is no continuity on one of them with neither of the door positions - rpelace that switch. GE part are expensive for no good reason, so replace with a different brand switch, with at least 15Amp rating, ie 28QBP0495

Is your dispenser opening at the correct time ? You should hear it when it opens. If it does not open replace the part inside of the door panel called a wax motor. This part opens the dispenser.
