Question about GE VG2042 VHS VCR

1 Answer

The school where I work has a GE2042 VCR avaiable for my classroom but no remote control for the VCR. When the vcr is turned on a screen comes up asking me to select a language. Since I do not have a remote, I cannot get past this screen. I have tried to use the buttons on the front panel of the vcr to select a language but none of them seem to do anything at all while this screen is up. Is there a way to bypass this screen and work the vcr using only the buttons on its front panel?

Hello eldillon,

You can contact the manufacture and get a replacement remote. I would advise that you do this before getting a universal remote.
Try GE's website

I hope this helps

Thank you,

Sanyo vwm390 vcr

That might be the TV output channel. I found these instructions in a Sanyo manual:
How to set the DVD+VCR's RF output channel 1. Set the TV to the VCR channel (3 or 4) depending upon the selected channel. 2. When the DVD+VCR is turned off, press and hold CHANNEL (V/v) on the front panel for more than five seconds. It will turn itself on and "RF03" or "RF04" appears in the dis-play window. 3. Press CHANNEL (V/v) on the front panel or CH/TRK(v/V) on the remote control to change the RF output channel (CH 03 or CH 04). 4. Turn off the DVD+VCR.

It might solve the problem!

Remote ineffective.

If you have a video camera with a night vision setting, wait until dark, turn out the lights and turn the camera onto night vision and look the the remote. When you press the buttons on the remote does the small led transmitter on the front ligh up. If so the remote is working but possibly sending the incorrect signals.

Quasar TV/VCR combo - can't find "video or line" to hook up Jeopardy game.

I figured it out. I had to go in the menu and find TV, then change the setting to LINE. I was going to VIDEO in the menu. It's ok. We're all fixed up now.

Proscan vcr plus gold stuck in lock

I just had the same problem and found a solution on the internet that worked. Hopefully you still have the VCR's remote control. Press and hold either the on/off, VCR1 or VCR2 button on the remote. I pressed the VCR1 button and held it for about 5-7 seconds. It released the lock and worked fine afterwards. The lock is some kind of childlock devise.
