Thanks for your suggestion. I restarted the copier and copied normally, exc. for flashing message. Ruined my whole day yesterday thinking I screwed it up. I don't have a tech manual to follow any instructions. Do you have one for this copier? I'd be glad to pay for a xerox copy. I ordered some developer. Do you think if I put in new developer, the flashing "replace unit" light will go off??

Hi Scottie, Please clarify if the darkness is like a darkened background or like streaks across the page... If it is the former you will just require a clean of the optics, if the later then a drum cleaning blade will probably do the trick...
Please let me know if I can help further email@example.com .
restart the copier while holding down the "0" and "5" keys. you will now be in service mode. enter "5" and press "start" key a number should show up in the display. this is the exposure value - how dark or light the copies will be. 5 is the automatic exposure setting. around 128 is the normal value. the larger this value the lighter the copies are - the smaller the value the darker the copies.
Enter a new number (exposure value) and press the "interupt" key to save the value. Restart the copier and check what the copies look like. Keep adjusting until it looks good/better.
turn off the power , hold down "print" &"stop/clear" while turning on power. now within 2 secund, press
'stop/clear" key again, now enter78, press print let it run, will be automatically stop running, when they stop running press "stop/clear" to end the simulation.
"Our copier started blinking replace unit" you need to replace the PROCESS unit...not the toner, and you surely don't need to go pokng around the back of a live copier with a multi-meter!!! I just relaced one for a customer, they are the blue things where you open the front door. They were available in june of '09, e-mail me and I'll get you one (don't know price off-hand) and tell you how to reset the unit once replaced.
