I have hackers invading all my pcs, so I got a mac.  they ¨shadow¨the bios, the first thing you see when you turn it on, and disable my peripherals, and repartition the harddrive, so that the d drive is no longer the disk drive, it is instead a virtual drive, somewhere.  I suggest you buy a mac.  it worked for me, and they are still messing with the pcs in my house.  How, I don´t know.  look at your bios and see if they are ¨shadowed

Sounds like the ribbon (cable) could be a controller issue, unplug the h.d.d. from controller head on mb and plug in the cd rom ribbon there boot into bios and look for the cd roms if the same problem is there replace the ribbon or you can check each one seperaely by running them off the primary ide as a slave to the hdd
also swap ribbons with the hdd and see if there is still a prob. if these do not correct the prob you have a controller issue buy a controller pci card and use it or replace the board, the card is much cheaper or the last poss. is both cd roms are bad

Note: it will find all of your outdated drivers

This will automatically search for and find the correct driver you will have to update every driver individually once you update you might be asked whether you want to restart or make a system restore point.

Click no to both of these then continue updating each driver free then restart once all of the drivers have been updated.

Gateway 420gr the HL DT ST DVDRAM GSA 4120B reads and burn CDs /cannot read DVDs inc Restore DVD

It's time to spend $40 to buy a replacement CD/DVD-writer.
There's no way to "fix" your "half-gassed" DVD-drive.
A technician would charge at least $25 to _look_ at your computer.
Instead, "invest" the $25 in a replacement.

GMA 4082n device driver not working properly code 39

First go into Setup (usually F1,F2 or del) at start-up. See if your drives show up there. With Windows running, right click My Computer, left click Properties, left click Hardware, left click Device Manager, left click DVD/CD-ROM drives. Also check IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. Do the drives show up there? If they do right click on drive and left click Update Driver. If they are not there go back to System Properties and left click on Add Hardware Wizard. This will search for devices. It may ask you to insert Windows CD which of course you can not do because the drives don't work. Try a different drive. When you cleaned out your computer did you delete or uninstall Office? That may be what caused this problem. None of this may work but it is a starting point.
