There are certain areas of the screen that are not responding:
when entering in an address, I sometimes have to hit the letters more than once.
I had a situation where the I was driving south but the arrow was going in the opposite direction. I tried to touch the compass on the screen to see if that would adjust the issue, but it would not respond. after a couple of days it corrected itself, but there is till no response if I touch the compass tab on the screen.
I read that I may need to recalibrate the screen. How do I do this. Please help. thanks

Right there with you, I have a avic d2 as well. my screen is not working at all. I work on stereos, and can not fix it myself, because Pioneer will not sell the ribbon cable needed to fix it. You must ship the unit to them, and pay $180 for a five minute repair. I used to buy only Pioneer, I have moved on to alpine. Pioneer has gone way, way down hill as soon as they stopped making there product in Japan.
This works!!!! This saved me $200.00 I am eternally thankful! the key to it is pressing the little reset button. it is very small and only accessable with a pen. If you follow the directions as listed, it will work. I've been born agan for fixya!
If your pioneer AVIC car navigation unit does not register your touches or the wrong button is “pressed”, you need to re-calibrate your screen’s digitizer.
1-Hold the Eject button down until the face of the unit drops all the way 2-Using a pen hold down the reset button (just above the joystick) and the navigation disc eject simultaneously. 3-Release the reset button. 4-Release the dvd eject button next. The display will read “press reset” 5-Push the joystick up two times. 6-Push the joystick down twice. 7-Press the joystick in. 8-The service menu will appear after a short pause. You can navigate the service menu using the joystick. 9-Chose the first menu option and press in on the joystick. 10-Trace the screen with a stylus. 11-"P.ADJ" is the back button 12-Chose the second menu item in order to calibrate the touch screen. Use a stylus again and tap the "+" sign on the screen. (You may have to touch slightly off center if the digitizer is damaged. In which case things will still be off but it will be much better.)
