Whats the best way to transfer my infomation and programs to a newer computer

For content, if you don't want to transfer it all to a flash drive and then transfer it to the new machine, register for an account at any (or all, your choice) of the following sites:
Dropbox (2GB free)
https://drive.google.com/ (15GB free)
Welcome to OneDrive (15-23GB free)
Once the programs of your choice are downloaded and installed, use them to back up your personal files to the internet. Then, on the new computer, install the programs and allow them to sync. This will download them from the internet. Move the files out of the folders to free up space, wait for the removal to sync to the old computer, and go back to the old computer to move more in to be moved over. Repeat this as much as needed to have all of your files moved over.
For programs, transfer any installation files you still have (the program you download and then click to install) through the cloud storage programs from above that you choose, then use these .exe files to install to the new laptop. If you don't have the .exe files lying around, then you can either hunt them down individually on the new computer (in which case, make a list from your old computer) or use a service like
Ninite Install or Update Multiple Apps at Once (it's free, by the way) to mass download/install most common programs so that you don't have to go hunting for them.
For programs that were installed via disc, you're probably just going to have to install those on the new machine the old fashioned way. You cannot just copy/paste program folders (though it's tempting) because installing programs writes values to your computer's registry, which cannot be transferred and certainly don't tag along with the program files installed on the computer. These registry values are what tell the computer how to handle that installation, so while some programs MIGHT work, most will not work well or at all without.
Hope this helped!

How to find out the product keys of the installed programs on your computer.

How to find out the product key/s of the installed program/son your computer.

Many computer users are having problem locating theirinstalled programs' product keys. Some pre-installed OEM programs like Microsoftofflice 2007, Microsoft operating system, etc... on some systems came with no written/labeledproduct keys. And there's situationwhen the software or the operating system asks for the key when some changes ismade with the system registries and the user can never access the programunless the product key is typed in. But in fact, the product key is alreadythere on the system and it's hard to find out with simple methods. The easiestway to find the product key of a particular program is through Magic Jelly Bean Keyfinder (clickhere to download). This is a small program which helps computer users tofind their installed programs' product keys. It detects almost all installed programs'product key. Simply download and install the program. Once it's installed, runthe program, it'll open up a window with two panes, you'll see the lists ofinstalled programs on the left pane and the respective product details on theright pane.

Click the name of a particular program on the left pane andyou'll see the information about the software with the product key. As we knowthat there're many more tools available, but with whatever I have tried, thisKeyfinder is the most effective program and most of all, it's FREE. So enjoy and get rid of thehassles.

Warning: Pleasedon't use the to steal the product key, but use this to get your own productkey.

Your comment and input is highly appreciated.

Thanks.

Run time error 13 type mismatch

It could be (and I am not a programmer either) is that there is somecorrupt entry in the registry or in the installation folder of yourAstro program.

This is what I would do.Try do completely de-install the program. I would use the free revo-uninstaller (you can get it here) and choose option 4 (Advanced). Delete all associated files that the program finds.
The huge advantage over MS's Add or Remove Programs is, that it also catches unnecessary program files left behind on your computer.

Download ccleaner (from here, make sure not to install the stupid Yahoo! Toolbar in "Install Options"!) and install it. Don't run it yet!
Restart your computer and run ccleaner (both clean and Registry)and get rid of all the ****. If you want to be super careful, you havethe option to make a registry backup from within ccleaner.

This way you (hopefully) have deleted any traces of older installations of the Astro program.

Restart your computer again after the cleanup and try to re-install your program again.

If you have any more questions or this suggestion did not work, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

Do not know how to install software

How to install a software program can depend on the operating system being used and the program being installed. Because of all the different possibilities, we have created the below steps as guidelines for installing programs in each of the major operating systems.
Notice: This document has been created as a basic overview on how to install software programs, games, and utilities on your computer. If errors are encountered during the installation, this document will not cover those errors.
General Tips
Microsoft Windows 95, 98, NT, ME, 2000, and XP users
MS-DOS Users
General Tips
  • Make sure your computer meets the requirements of the program, game, or utility you are attempting to install.
  • The manuals for the program or the readme file located in the same directory as the install commonly contain exact instructions on how to install a program.
  • After installing or during the installation, a program may need to install other programs, files, or utilities before it is able to run. If this is the case, the program will commonly prompt you to install the program or you may need to run a separate install before the program can be fully used.
  • When installing a program, utility, or game, it is always a good idea first to close or disable any other programs that are running.
  • After installing a new program if it prompts you to reboot the computer, do it.
Microsoft Windows 95, 98, NT, ME, 2000, and XP users Many software programs, games, and utilities have an AutoPlay feature that will automatically start the setup screen for the software program when the CD is placed in the computer. If your program, game, or utility contains this feature, run the installation through the screen that appears after inserting the disc.
If you are installing a program, game, or utility that does not contain this feature or you are installing a program from a floppy diskette, follow the below steps.
  1. Open My Computer.
  2. Within the My Computer window, open the drive that contains the installation files. For example, if the files are on a floppy diskette, open the A: drive. If they're on a CD or DVD open the D: drive or the letter of the disc drive.
  3. Within the drive that contains your files, locate either a setup or install file. Double-clicking on this file should start the installation for the program, game, or utility. If you see multiple setups or install files, try to locate the Application file or double-click each of setup or install files until you find the file that starts the installation. Many times the icons associated with the installation files have the same name.
An alternate method of starting the installation in Microsoft Windows
  1. Click Start and Run.
  2. In the Run Window, type x:\setup or x:\install where x is the letter of the drive you wish to start the installation from. For example, if you are attempting to install a program from the floppy disk drive you would type a:\setup or a:\install.
MS-DOS Users Users installing a program from Microsoft DOS should have a basic understanding of the MS-DOS commands. If you are unfamiliar with any of the commands listed below, click the link to get additional information and examples on the commands.
  1. Before installing a program in MS-DOS, you must switch to the drive and/or directory that contains the installation files. If you are installing a program from a CD or diskette, switch to that drive. Additional information about switching drives in Microsoft DOS can be found on document CH000515. If the installation files are located in a different directory, use the dir command to list the directories and the cd command to switch into the appropriate directory.
  2. Once you are in the directory or drive that contains the installation files, run the executable for the setup. Many times this can be done by typing setup or install at the prompt to start the installation. If both of these commands give a bad command or file name error message, type dir *.exe or dir *.com or dir *.bat. These commands will list any executable files; if any files are listed, attempt to execute these files to run the installation or setup of the program. If no files are listed when typing all three of the above commands, it is possible that either you are in the incorrect directory or drive letter, or that the program.
Additional information about running an file from MS-DOS can also be found on document CH000598.
Additional information:
  • Information about problems that can occur after an install can be found on document CH000123.
  • See document CH000506 for information about how to extract a file that you've downloaded before installing a program.

VirusResponse Lab 2009 on computer.

What this programs does:
VirusResponse Lab 2009 is an exact replica, other than the name, of the Zlob installed rogue called Antivirus Lab 2009. VirusResponse Lab is installed via malware that pretends to be a video codec required to watch videos online. Instead of doing what is advertised, the Zlob Trojan displays fake security alerts on your computer stating that your computer is infected and installs the VirusResponse Lab program. Once installed, the program will be configured to start automatically when your computer loads. Once started this program will scan your computer a list a variety of infections that cannot be removed unless you first purchase the software. These found infections, though, are all fake and are only being shown to scare you into purchasing the VirusResponse Lab 2009.
Another byproduct of having this software installed is that your computer will begin to run slower. This is because the program is always running in the background while using your computer's resources. VirusResponse Lab will also periodically display nag boxes stating that you are infected and that you should purchase the software. Getting out of these sequences of boxes trying to sell you the software can be irritating and time consuming.

This guide will walk you through removing the VirusResponseLab 2009 program and its associated malware for free.

Will not let me into the program for my other computer

If you're trying to open a program installed on another computer, you can't do that ...not through standard network/file sharing.

The program is installed on the other machine, which means that the installation wrote to the system registry and needs those registry settings to run, which are not set on your "primary" computer.

You can either download and install the program to the "primary" computer, or setup remote desktop to access the other computer, and run the program that way.

Hope this helps :)

We have a windows vista computer and a game which we havent installed yet because we were wondering if it might damage the game or computer because on the minimum requirments it says that the computer must...

the worst that could happen is that the computer may not run the program. try installing the game, your cd (assuming that's the source of the setup files for the game) should not be affected.

after you install the program try to run it as usual by double clicking the icon to run the program if it doesn't run as expected try this.
1. right click the icon you use to run the game.
2. select properties
3. select the compatibility tab and select an appropiate mode. (ex. windows xp service pack 2)

not completely sure but you may also want to try to run the installation/setup program by changing the compatibility mode so you may be able to trick the program into believing the app/game is being installed on a windows xp service pack 2 system increasing your chances to have the installation running properly.
