In my 2001 Chevrolet S-10 truck the gauges on the dash are ticking(moving) when the truck is off and the key is not in the ignition. Then the battery is dead the next morning.(Just bought a brand new battery and it happened again). Any idea why the gauges are ticking or what might be causing the power drain on the battery???

What is happening is that you have electrical problem have you installed an after market radio? or it can be your ignition switch that has gone faulty and is keeping something on. there needs to be some diagnosing done i suggest find an electrician for this. since it is electrical.

SOURCE: Dead battery or starter?

Take the battery out and have it charged up. reinstall it and you should be allright. Your car has discharged it completely, and it will need a recharge to start. The gauge is only measuring voltage, and not the status of charge.

SOURCE: How do you check if altenator is charging battery,

Most vehicles if you get the car running and unhook the positive battery cable it will stay running that is because it is running off the alternator. if it dies like your talking about I would most definitely say your alternator needs to be replaced. Most likely when you jumped your father in laws pick up there was a bad ground somewhere and your alternator got a surge of electricity and it fried it. Hope this helps.

If/How long will it crank over before it stops? Are you saying it will crank over, but very slow? Has it been sitting quite a while. Got good spark, and fuel?

Resetting the Passlock system should fix it. If it doesn't you need an auto electrician or an auto locksmith.

Will not start or turn over

if your battery gauge shows full, does this mean your dash gauges work? If they do, and your lights come on, and horn blows, then you either have a bad ignition switch, or a bad hot wire to the starter. Maybe this will help.

1997 Blazer, had key in forward position and battery gauge was good and dash lights on. Relays on firewall got moved and lost all power. How do I restore?

I would sugest the problem lies with the ignition switch or barrel if you can't move the key. I would 1st remove the switch from the barrel & turn with screwdriver to see if it operates.

you need to check all fuses one by one for loose contact.leave the igtion key to on position and try to tap the fuse box, shake wires from battery going to inside the car.A testlight is effective in diagnosting this trouble.Probing the wires on the ignition switch while turning on the key.Need somebody to observe the cluster while performing the troubleshooting.

5 to 10 minutes after the sensor triggers my headlights on, my headlights go out and my gauges on my dash begin to jump up every couple seconds. There is a clicking sound when it happens and my lights dim...

Check your battery connections and do a voltage test to battery with engine running lights off, then check with lights on. You need a minimum of 12.5 volts but should have 13-14 volts even with lights.

Key off and gauges move

it's normal if it's what I think, fuel gauge goes to half on the right side and the farthest gauge to the left goes to half, if it's the case it's the security system that does that after about 10 or 15 minutes they both go back to zero, but as soon as you unlock the door and open it they go back to half until you start it....
