Nikon S210 flash not working

If your batteries are weak, the flash will not have enough power to flash and will prevent a picture from being taken.

Artificial light is a different colour than daylight. Our eyes compensate, so we don't notice it much. Most digital cameras can compensate too, but whether they do or not depends on the settings. The setting you want to investigate is color balance. If this is set to daylight, it will give an orange cast to pictures taken in tungsten lighting, and a greenish cast to pictures taken in flourescent light. If it is set to artificial light, pictures taken in daylight will have a bluish cast. The best setting for most people is Auto, if your camera has it. That will let your camera decide, and usually it will get it about right.

You no need to fix this problem. This is a CCD failure and in some cases had been subject to a recall. Contact Nikon support-this may be one of the recalls and replacement camera could be on its way. They will do it for free of cost.

The flash is trying to charge. Try a freshly charged battery in the camera. If that doesn't work, go into the options menu and set them to factory default. Try the camera again. If that doesn't fix it, there is a defect in the camera.

If the flash is on and you can't take photos, it could be that the flash circuit has gone bad. Make sure the camera is focused first though, before you try to take the pictures. Many times if the camera can't focus on something, it wont take a picture.

Is the lens clean? Are you pressing the shutter button half-way and giving the camera a chance to lock in the focus (it will beep) before pressing the rest of the way? Do you actually move while pressing the button? Try taking a few pics while the camera is on a tripod or a firm surface to eliminate movement.

It sounds like you should try a new set of batteries in the camera. I have a similar camera and the flash is the first to go when the batteries are dying.

Depends on the camera. If there's an Auto/No-flash mode, select that. Otherwise, set the flash mode to no-flash. Another option might be the Night Portrait or Night Landscape modes.

I was having the same problem with my D40... but I read your post, tried switching the 18-55 lens to manual, then back to auto, and it seems to be working fine now. Hmmmm... think maybe there's a circuitry issue with the lens?
