Question about RCA HD50LPW175 50" HDTV

1 Answer

I HAVE A RCA DLP TV AND THE LAMP KEEPS BREAKING EVERYYEAR I have an RCA DLP tv. The model number is M50WH72SYX2, serial number H986C6031. Purchased a year and a half ago, just a few months after the year warranty ran up. The tv would shut off and then the green light would blink 5 times. I called their customer service team and was told it was the bulb. They wanted $399.00 for a new lamp replacement. I found the replacement bulb for $100.00 and replaced the bulb. The TV seemed to work okay for a while afterward, but now it's beginning to shut off in the middle of watching the tv. We noticed if we had it on for a few hours in the morning, then shut if off during the day, we wouldn't be able to watch tv again for a while. So, we usually dealt with that. But now, it's to where we turn it on and it shuts off again in less than 2 hours. We know it's not the bulb because when we turn it on the next day, the colors are still there...We have it quite a ways from the wall, but it still seems to overheat?? I can't quite figure out what to do, other than buy a new tv, but that can be so expensive. Any suggestions?? Thanks!

Thanks for the help -- Though I am states away from him. He's in Austin and I am in Utah... Don't think he'd make a house call to me that far away. Sounds like this guy really knows what he's doing... I may try and call him, perhaps he knows someone in my area that may be able to help.

    Thanks for trying.

Sounds like the color wheel or lamp I would check the lamp first to insure thats its not broken as they can make a pop when they fail sometime (Breaking) then I would check the color wheel you will be able to tell if the color wheel arear has the noise coming from it. If you need more assistance let me know.

TV model number is M61WH745 it keeps blowing the blube this will be the 4th one in 5 years

first the correct model # is M61wh74s.
there are two differnet lamps that may have been installed at the time of manufacture. you should remove the lamp access door and use the lamp part # printed on the label pasted to the inside of the access door. To use any other or a sub (which are only good for about a year) will down grade the brill of the picture and cause undue load on the ballast (supply cirucit for the lamp). Additionally if you are in an area that experiences frequent brown outs (power reduction to the home) I strongly suggest using a UPS (uninterruptable power supply) to power your DLP TV.

The picture is not bright in a light-filled room. Will a change of DLP lamp help? Are there different lamps that will improve picture quality?

Yes.Depend how old is ur DLP tv,the Projection Lamp only a light source, mostly depended on the Light projection Engine itself.Get the original RCA DLP lamp or same lamp model now inside the tv,will help and work best for ur tv.Just don't get generic DLP tvs lamp,it cheaper poorer quality.

Please Help. I have a 56" DLP Samsung and the lights just flash

Sounds like the lamp might be burned out. The Lamp should be replaced every couple years. If they are not replaced they will eventually burn out. Replacement is not that difficult and just requires a screwdriver. The lamp is located at the back of the DLP TV on the left side. The lamp can be purchased online from Samsung for about $130 dollars. You might be able to find a aftermarket one for less. Just use your telivision's model number located on the right side of the TV on sticker to cross reference the bulb that is needed or there might be a sticker on the back at the lamp housing that has the lamp part number. And make sure to spend the extra money and get the Lamp with the housing together. You can buy just the lamp for cheaper but that will require you to remove the old lamp from the housing and they are fragile. Much easier installation with the housing/lamp combo.

I have the exact same TV and have had the exact same problem. I talked to a TV repairman who said it has to be my deflection board. I just found this out today so I am looking all over the web for a deflection board. I hope this helps! Tyson

Usually that is an indication of a bad lamp. A lamp can be ordered and replaced yourself. Use the model number of the television to order the correct lamp.

Make sure the tv is at least a foot away from the wall so it can circulate air and keep the bulb cool. Try to avoid turning it on and off multiply times in a short period of time.

RCA 50" dlp lamp dead?

There are many different problems with RCA televisions. One could be a color wheel. Another could be a bad ballast. www.Lamp-Replacement.com has a guide and solutions for your RCA lamp 265866 or 270414. The problem is most likely a bad ballast, which is supposed to pre-charge your lamp and ignite it. If you aren't even getting to that stage, you can trace the problem to another component or power supply.
