I can't figure out how to change my security settings
I have a GE 29875 answering machine, but the instructions does not say if I need to simply press the button or hold it. It also does not tell me how to change the code once I get in there and I don't want to mesanything I already have in there, as I am going away for vacation to Vegas and I live in Florida. So recovering any important message otherwise would be impossible.
Re: I can't figure out how to change my security settings
If you press and hold the button, it will tell you what the machine is set to. For example...it will say the time, date, rings to answer, SECURITY Code and then you won't have to change it if you don't want to.
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US. click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need. Goodluck!

My reliable GE 29897GE2-A speakerphone w/ digital answering machine works perfect on my AT&T landline, BUT the answering machine does NOT work when connected to my Vonage VDV21-VD line (w/ voicemail and call forwarding disabled). I called Vonage Customer Support to inquire about this from their website:
"Can I use my own answering machine instead of Vonage server based voice mail? If you wish, you CAN use your existing answering machine with Vonage. All you need to do is DISABLE Vonage’s server based voicemail system by logging into your account at www.vonage.com, and clicking on features. The voicemail menu will allow you to disable the entire Vonage voicemail system."
Vonage Customer Support was clueless. The only resolution offered was their suggestion that I might contact the manufacturer (GE-licensed Atlinks USA, Thomson)... lol, good luck with that!
So I installed a GE in-line "DSL Phone Line Filter" between the Vonage VDV21-VD and the GE 29897GE2-A, BUT the answering machine still does NOT work. It appears that Vonage is simply incompatible with the answering machine despite Vonage's bold claims to the contrary.
I found the manual and it told me to unplug the machine both from the back and the socket itself. I did try just unplugging the machine from the back and it would not reset, but when I did BOTH things (which seems silly)...it worked and reset itself. It worth giving it a try...
GE Digital Messaging System ~ Voice/Time/Day stamp
1a] press and hold down STOP/set button and wait for promps.....
ie. press NEXT to change Day stamp and then SET to pick.
ie. press NEXT to change Hour and SET to pick.
ie. press NEXT to change Minute and SET to pick.
1b] press NEXT to pick 1minute allowance recording for recieving messages coming in, or 2 minutes or 3 minutes or 4 minutes. This machine only has 1/2 hour of recording time, so maybe you can 'tell' -record- that and let incoming callers know they have only minutes and machine will automatically shut off and cut them off [hang-up] on them.
2] press and hold down Greeting button and follow promps to change the answering machine voice promps to your own voice. Machine will automatically PLAY BACK your voice, if you don't like what you hear, press and hold down Greeting button again and try again.
~ hope all above helps.
