Question about Rule H53sp 24mgra Swimming Pool Cover Pump Centrifugal Computerized

I have a rule 1800 computerized pool cover pump. As soon as I plug it in, it runs a few seconds then shuts right off, WON"T keep running. (this is outside of the water, dry) any help?

    I have a Rule computerized 1800 pump on my pool cover. In water it starts & then stops right away. There is enough water for it to keep running but it does not. Any suggestions?

That's a good thing. That pump uses resistance on the impeller to alert it to the presence of water. It will periodically start and run for a few seconds. If there is any water present, it will keep running, otherwise it will shut off until the next time it tries. Put it in water, and see if it works there.

I tried my Rule 1800 cover pump to get the spring water off. I plugged it in and it tripped the switch on the outlet. I reset and it ran for about 2 seconds and then quit. I waited a few minutes and...


I assume the device being tripped is a GFCI -- the pump has a short to ground. Most practical solution is to replace the pump. Don't try to run it from an un-protected outlet (no GFCI) -- it's dangerous.

Rule 1800 gph pool cover pump will not run


The sensor that checks for h20 every 10 seconds may not be working properly. First make sure the pump is unplugged then clean the pump making sure the impeller is free never do this with it plugged in. tap the pump lightly with a screw driver handle to make sure the bearings are not frozen if it still does not work send it back to the manufacturer
