Question about Televison & Video

Someone put an X On my LCD 40-47inch Tv.

Okay someone Vandlised my Television and Scratched an X with a Key when you turn it on towards the end of the X it went so deep you can see white! Is it ruined and how much do you think it would cost to fix because I have to send it in to the manufactor since no one fixes it since it's a Proton. It's a Spectrum IQ it's only been out since 2006. Would it be just better to go get a new television instead of sending it in or would it be cheaper to fix it!?

Yeah we paid 1200 for the tv its repair price of 3000 i got it at a rent to own place the warranty probably wouldnt cover vandlisem i know who did it, it was my dad i was staying with him till i got a new place and he got mad at me and messed it up! i dont even know if there is a warranty and there is no repair shops around here that do the Proton Tv repair! It sucks.. and my dad keeps saying well try to find a repair shop or blah it will be cheaper im like no it will cost more and you can get a better one for probably 300 dollars cheaper than what i bought it for

  • j_renee08 Dec 12, 2008

The first one is with it off. the Second one is with it on and when like a picture comes on sometimes its worse the white part.

  • j_renee08 Dec 12, 2008

Oh and we already paid it off in the first 90 days we had it thats why we got it for 1200 otherwise we would had to pay 3000 for it. Im not sure what the serial number is ill have to get my husband to find it ive already tryed calling like 8 repair shops and they keep telling me they dont fix protons.. i dont even know if its a proton it says Spectrum IQ on the front or whatever and I cant find nothing on it! I dont even know if they make parts for it?

  • j_renee08 Dec 12, 2008

It kind of usually its really bad when theres a dark scene and i think its been getting worse everytime we turn it on. I dont know I tryed calling the Proton Corporation but theres no one there. I think its a proton thats what 2 people told me but they werent even sure they just said they dont fix it since its not a name brand like sony or phillps its a proton. So I cant even get ahold of the Proton people to see how much parts would cost. & To see if it's even their t.v. brand

  • j_renee08 Dec 12, 2008

Alright yeah I have no idea, I would think the Tv Repair shops would just have me bring it in so they could find out they just tell me they can't fix it because I cant say its one of the brands they can fix. So Im pretty screwed unless I can get ahold of Proton and see what there parts are. I have to find out the prices though or I can't get a tv because Im suppose to be comparing prices if it would be cheaper to fix it or just buy a new one. My dad is stupid he keeps saying well you can probably fix it for cheaper than what I am saying but Im trying to tell him it will just be cheaper to get a new one at Walmart. He's dumb hes the one who did it to the Television while he was drunk. I just want a new television im tired of dealing with this tv if its going to cost more than 1200 i just want to get a name brand like sony incase something happens again it wont be such a hassle but hes being a pain in my **** so ive been calling people all morning trying to figure it out. so if you find anything out please tell me lol.

  • j_renee08 Dec 12, 2008

lol i would if i was at home but im in kansas at my moms my television is in missouri with my husband. I go home this weekend and ill get the model number off the back of the Television and ill post it for you than! If we can't do nothing till I get that that is fine I can wait a couple of days. I wish proton would of answered though so I could find out the part prices.

  • j_renee08 Dec 12, 2008

Alright Ill do that as soon as I get it ill write it too you im pretty sure i know what you are talking about. I need to find the manual i think its got it on it too.

Hello im sorry that happened to you it is so wrong. it is very costly to repair a panel even if you can send it to the co. it will cost as much as a new tv to repair. it may be a better choice to get a new one instead. it will cost as much or more than a new set take advantage of the specials going on for the holiday. the technology is advanced now 2006 lcd and plasma models are okay but the new generation 2008-09 lcd and plasmas are definitely better and have better picture 1080p and better clarity they also work better with the new hdtv systems and blue ray dvd players.

its up to you but if you can afford to fix this panel you can afford a brand new set..

you can allways sell the damadged one on a auction site someone will buy it for the parts or to repair it. so youll get something back for it of even take your time and have it repaired if they give you a decent price. lets see the new set will run you about 700 and a new screen panel replacement can cost up to 1000$ or even more if it is a plasma
try installing a hidden security cam so next time you can catch the person whos doing this they might do it again so be careful if you do get a new one..

good luck happy holidays..

theres one thing you can do and you have to be patient you can search for a same model tv that has working issues and is a sold for repair as long as the screen is good you might be able to get the parts you need before you have a service man exchange it for you and restore your tv. it takes a while to find the your specific model. you can search the online surplus sites, liquidation site listings or auction listings.

you will still have to pay for the service or repairs but it will be less and you will save on the parts . i hope this helps i understand you completely. the pay to own stores are very expensive becuase they charge you 3 times the value of the item..then after you pay your on your own.

    hope this helps

Because the screen is damaged it most likely will not be cheap to fix, If the manufacurer will fix it under warantee then go for it, you could also search for a replacement panel, but they are generally expensive, usually more expensive than the tv itself. Sounds dumb but its true. How much did you pay for the tv? Whats the model number? Call some of your local repair shops and see if they can get you a screen, worth a shot.

Ahh i see, give me th emodel number off the back of the tv let me do a little research see what i can find, and yes itll cost alot more to fix it than the tv is worth most likely, even if we found a screen the shipping on it would be about 200 or more considering its size, Just out of curiosty have you opened the tv? Also you said you got it at a rent to own place right? Are you still paying for it? If you are see what the insurance covers, it may cover certain damages, can you get me a pic of the screen?

  • Justin Washburn Dec 12, 2008

The price of large flat screens is also dropping heck you can get a pretty good 46 inch at walmart for about 1200. But lets concentrate on what we can do with what you got for now.

  • Justin Washburn Dec 12, 2008

That is a pretty bad gash, has effected the actual picture much? are the colors of the picture distorted? especially near the scratch? Im looking to see what I can find on screens, at least give you an idea of what the creen will cost. The screen is most likely manufactured by a well known company like LG or Sharp, The name of the company on the front is just a company that assembled it and put there name on it.

  • Justin Washburn Dec 12, 2008

Heres an example, I have a Sylvania plasma tv that I have repaired, Sylvania is manufactured by funai, the power supply in the tv is by funai but the screen itself was manufactured by LG, the same company that makes phones. So its a Sylvania, LG, Funai hybrid, whacky huh? Let me see what I can find....

  • Justin Washburn Dec 12, 2008

oh can you find me the model number off the back of the TV?

  • Justin Washburn Dec 12, 2008

I can see its a tight squeeze between the wall and tv but get me the model number of the back, itll be a label with all kinds of info.

  • Justin Washburn Dec 12, 2008

Ahh i see, what size is the screen exactly? Ill see if I can trck down the model based on the photo.

  • Justin Washburn Dec 12, 2008

OK, i did a little research, need to know if the tv is a Proton or a Protron. If it is a Protron it cannot be fixed. The company Proton sewed the company Protron for obvious reasons and the company Protron was shut down. The only way we may be able to fix it is find out who manufactured the actual screen (LG, Sharp, CMO). Then we can see if we can find a replacement, but from the looks of it the safe bet would be to buy another and part this tv out, the parts should go for a decent amount of money as they have been tested as working. Just to satisfy my curiosity i would like to know the size of the screen so I can see whats information I can find. But honestly its looking pretty bleek, as the company protron no longer exists, however Proton does so if it is indeed a Proton we may still have a shot.

Check to see if your set of keys are heavy or have stuff dangling on the key-chain. Sometimes the vibration will cause the ignition switch to move slightly towards the off/acc. position. That is your cheapest first step.

My television set is not coming "ON" when its turned "ON"

I had the Same issue. on a 50PF9431D/37 Philips set. Many Plasma Set's use a LJ44-00118A PS-505-PH Power supply from Samsung. Know to have this common problem. If you can, or have a friend that can Solder components?. Unplug your set remove the back panel & locate your power supply. It will be the PCB in the center of the set just above the Video/Audio conections. http://www.shopjimmy.com/power-supply-unit-lj44-00118a-from-philips-50mf231d-40.htm. Link to a photo of the PCB. Make a note of the location of all cable connections then unplug them all. Un-install PCB, Check a Fuse first. I believe their is 5 or 6 of them on the PCB. Then replace the two 3300uf 10v 105C Radial capacitors at C8060 & C8059. The location of the caps are in the Lower bottom edge of the PCB. A local shop may Carrie them if not, digi-key has them. Part # http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=493-1754-ND. Total cost was $7 with S/H.

Hello corandvic,

On the remote control for the television you should see a button labeled Input. Turn on your DVD player and press the Input button on the TV remote until your picture appears.

Lg 32lcd2d (tv won't turn on)

It is most likely the power supply. If you see domed caps change them using a higher voltage cap. If it's 1000uf at 15vdc put in a 1000uf at 25 or 35 vdc. If this helps let me know.

Problem with the picture

You need to replace the convergence ICs in this TV set. If you know how to solder and work on printed circuit boards and can follow a circuit diagram, this should really not be a difficult thing to do. If you do not have ALL of these talents, play it safe and call in a pro to assist you in this repair as this TV set is NOT the place to be experiementing around inside of. Good Luck
