Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, if there are no indicators that power is reaching the inside of the InFocus LP540 projector, then it would be safe to assume that it is primarily a power supply issue. Now this could be as simple as a blown fuse, missing +5 standby voltage or complicated as thermal protection or auto protect mode.

This of course would require opening the unit, perform voltage measurements, determine faulty component and subsequent part(s) replacement. Further, a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron would be required. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings.Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy New Year.

Kindly remove the power chord or wire on the projector,, then you will see the hub on it kindly test in on a tester if you have the tester, switch the tester in x10 resistance then check it, if the pointer of your tester will not move it means there is no resistor that connects to the power because it will not on,, just try it my dear,, then if you have a comment, kindly ask it again for clarification,.. regards JAN_yuanjia

Make sure the lamp cover is in place as it has a plunger on it which closes a switch . If the switch is open you will never power on. With the cover remover you can manually actuate the switch too and it will power up.

If the unit is outside of warranty start by checking the fuses and the power adapter, or power board. If the unit is still covered by warranty contact your dealer or infocus for repair service.

if you don't want to take the unit apart you may want to contact a service center, if you need a service center drop me a comment.

LP540 Projector Lamp Does Not come on> it has an error message; "Lamp didn't Strike". Does that mean the Lamp/Bulb is bad?

Hi,
It's most likely the lamp is bad or the part that starts the lamp called a ballast is bad. The LP540 model has an issue with the ballast burning out. The ballast is a part that starts or strikes the lamp. The only sure way to test is to try starting it with a known good lamp.
You can check for signs of a bad lamp. Think about how long you've had your projector & estimate the total hours on your lamp. If it's over 500 it very well could be the lamp as they fail at any time. Remove the lamp cover door & pull out the lamp to visually inspect it. Look in good light & use a magnifier if available too check for any cracks or chips in the small bulb & look to see if the round part of the small bulb is covered with a lot of white or if it's not round anymore. If it's very white it means it has a lot of hours on it. If there's any loose glass inside (check by turning the lamp cage in different directions) then the lamp is bad. If it's nice & clear or has only a small white spot it's probably a good lamp.
I repair almost all Infocus models if you need a quote.
Thanks & good luck,
Jim

InFocus LP540 Power Supply Problem

most of infocus parts are oem and made by a company in taiwan that no longer makes power supplies, and many of the parts have their stock numbers and not neccesarily a common stock. the power supply, however, is in stock at infocus for about $65.

I haven't serviced an infocus projector before, But I have seen 3 or 4 Red cutting out display simptoms on projectors caused by bent or pushed in gold pins on the VGA leads. (it always seems to be red!) I won't comment on insides but do check this basic tip before delving in too deep. Good Luck

Infocus LP540 --- display

Hello,
It sounds like you may be feeding it with an HDMI source using an HDMI to M1-D adapter...

If this is the case, make sure the source in not set to a resolution higher than 720p.
However I really need more information to offer a definitive solution.

Take Care!

TROUBLE IN LP540

Check for internal fuse on power module, you will have to open the case.
Make sure power cord is removed. Be carefull capacitors tend to hold a charge long after power is removed. I have a LP640 ....big brother to this one. If you open the case the warranty is voided so think about it first. the fuse could be on the circuit board and will look like a small solid green resistor or it could be a full sized fuse in-line with the wires coming from the power cord connector. I have seen the inside of a LP390 with the fuse behind the power inlet connector. Good Luck
